The students in fourth grade have been learning about the Connecticut River and will be visiting Wilgus State Park in order to learn more about stewardship.

Casella Calendar Award Winner
Third graders across New England were asked to draw a picture depicting recycling for their yearly calendar. More than 900 entries were received. One of our own third grade students Nora Roberts was a winner. Nora's entry will be placed in a page after December on the calendar and was given an award for her entry by a Casella Representative this week.
Weathersfield Police Department Visited 2nd Grade
We had some very special visitors in our 2nd grader classroom this week. The second grade has been learning about different careers as a part of their Career Exploration unit with Ms. Cole, our school counselor. On Tuesday this week, Chief Daniels, Detective Prince, and Canine Officer AJ of the Weathersfield PD came to WS and spoke to the class about what it takes to become a police officer. Students learned about the requirements for becoming an officer and how the 7 habits are key to success in the profession. The officers also answered student questions about the daily duties, responsibilities, and expectations of a career in law enforcement.
Panther Cub Night
Panther Cub night was a huge success. It was great to see so many of our incoming kindergarten students and their families participate in this annual event. Thank you to everyone that made this event such a success. It is so wonderful to have our Weathersfield family come together for this event.
Change for a Cause
A member of the WS Family is in need of our support. Weathersfield Student Council would like to start collecting coins to help support the family. We will collect coins until May 26th. Just send in any spare change you have and we are going to try to fill a 5 gallon bucket!
On March 3rd, Adelyn Lovell, was hospitalized with what we now know is severe aplastic anemia. We don't know why she developed this illness and the treatment options are long and difficult. She has been seen by doctors at both Dartmouth-Hitchcock and Boston Children's. Aplastic anemia is a very rare bone marrow failure syndrome and Adelyn has been requiring multiple blood transfusions just to support her. She will next need to undergo intensive treatment over the next 6-12 months to completely get better.
Adelyn also has two older brothers at home, Jacobi Melanson and Henry Lovell, who are very worried about her and want her to get better soon so she can go do all the fun stuff that kids want to do.
Supportive funds will be used to pay for transportation for treatment, supplements and other supportive therapies, meals, and to help with wage losses during this time.
We are very grateful and overwhelmed for your love and support. Many have already generously contributed via our GoFundMe.
Other ways to help support:
-If you or your child knows either Jacobi or Henry, please consider inviting them to meet at the playground, go biking, swimming etc. now and over the summer. Of particular interest for Jacobi is soccer practice/play. If there are any coaches or parents that are willing to organize/attend a regular meet up at the Perkinsville field that would be very much appreciated. Henry has a strong interest in antiques and collecting if anyone wants to show him their treasures or has any special tips for finding old bottles around here locally.
-Donate blood or platelets. While we don't have a way to get your donation directly to Adelyn, adding to the national supply is absolutely helpful.
-Register to donate Bone Marrow, oftentimes this can be done noninvasively and with minimal discomfort. Registering to be a stem cell donor can save a life of a child or adult in need, maybe even Adelyn's who currently does not have a match on the registry.

Art Show/Community Dinner Request
Hello All!
I am so excited to be able to bring art to the community dinner that is happening May 31st! I will be presenting a slideshow of student artwork that we have done all year long. I really want students to showcase their own art. I have asked students to bring into school some of their favorite artwork that they have created at home. I will display it in the AP Room as well as the Art Room to be seen during the community dinner extravaganza. I need students to bring in their art by May 19th so I have time to make the tags and prepare the work for display.
I would also like to ask if anyone is willing to donate any picture frames or pre cut mats so I can frame as much student art as possible. I had many, but not enough of certain sizes. The sizes I am looking for include:
8x10 frame size with 5x7 opening of a mat size. I need 5 more of these.
11x14 frame size with 8x10 opening of a mat size. I need 7 more of these.
12x12 frame size with a 9.5x9.5 opening of a mat size. I need 1 of these.
So excited to show everyone the amazing art that students here at Weathersfield have created.
See you then!
