Mountain View Middle School redesignated as a "School to Watch"
The New Jersey Schools to Watch Committee of the New Jersey Association of Middle Level Education is pleased to announce that...
Mountain View Middle School has been redesignated for the fourth time as a New Jersey School to Watch for 2021-2024!
This designation is based on the application Mountain View’s faculty & staff submitted, the observations of the NJSTW Site Visit Team, and the on-going commitment that Mountain View has shown to the Schools to Watch process.
Schools to Watch is an initiative launched by the National Forum in 1999. Through the Schools to Watch initiative, the National Forum identifies schools across the United States that are well on their way to meeting the Forum’s criteria for high performance. In the state of New Jersey, this Forum's mission is carried on by the New Jersey Association of Middle Level Education and its New Jersey Schools to Watch Committee.
Forum members believe that four things are true of high-performing middle-grades schools:
Academic Excellence- The school challenges all students to use their minds well.
Developmental Responsiveness- The school is sensitive to the unique developmental challenges of early adolescence.
Social Equity- The school is democratic and fair, providing every student with high-quality teachers, resources, learning opportunities, and supports.
Organizational Support and Processes- A high-performing school establishes norms, structures, and organizational arrangements to support and sustain its trajectory toward excellence. The school has a sense of purpose that drives every facet of practice and decision-making.

A note from Ms. Walsh
Happy International SEL Day Mountain View! We started off our Friday with students being greeted by the school mascot and positive messages in chalk. SEL day celebrates the Social Emotional Learning that happens in schools. Social Emotional Learning involves Self Awareness, Self Management, Responsible Decision Making, Relationship Management and Social Awareness. The Advisory program here at Mountain View bases all lessons on these five core competencies. To celebrate today, we utilized Advisory to work on a variety of activities. The 5th grade continued to work on their “If You See Something Say Something” bullying prevention posters and then transitioned into posting positive motivational mirror messages in the school bathrooms. The 6th grade took advisory outside to spread positivity around school with chalk messages for students to read while heading home and into the weekend. The 7th and 8th graders developed their “Ultimate Coping Skills Playlist” by identifying songs that they like to listen to at different times. More pictures to come!! Have a great Friday and weekend!
