Greenwood Elementary
Hello Greenwood Families!
We have been so busy in the library, it's hard to believe 2023 has arrived!
Over the last few weeks, our Greenwood Gators participated in the Hour of Code program which serves to build computer programming (coding) skills. Ask your child what an algorithm is. I bet they'll be proud to tell you what they know! We honed our coding skills a bunch of different ways. Students crafted an algorithm as a class using an emoji board, they used their Chromebooks to complete a variety of programming challenges on the Hour of Code website, and they put their skills to the test by programming robots to complete specific tasks. Our youngest learners drew the colors black, green, red, and blue to program Ozobots to move around a race track. Our older students used Amazon Fire tablets and block-based programming to code our Dash robots to move around, play sound, and flash lights!

Kindergarten programs with Ozobots
These students from Mrs. Frazier's class created a program for their Ozobots to move along a track and follow the color codes to speed up and slow down.
First grade programs with Beebot
First graders in Ms. Doherty's class program the Beebot to get to the flower (a lego). They all have jobs - we have a challenge creator, a programmer, a robot wrangler, and a debugger!
Second grade programs with Code Monkey Jr.
Third grade programs with robots named "Dash"
Fourth grade programs a Dance Party!

A look at the year ahead!
Throughout the winter we will continue developing more tech skills leveraging our Google for Education applications and in the spring will switch gears and develop our research skills!
And of course, I would be remiss if I didn't mention book checkout and reading. Students check out books each week to bring home and have an opportunity to read during library media class as well.
About Me :)
