Hot Coco and Holiday Fun
One of my favorite times of the year is HERE!! I love teaching in the month of December. I love Holiday songs, candy canes, hot coco and making ornaments. So of course I plan to have a time to do all of these things! On December 11 from 12:15-1:30 we will be having an afternoon of fun. Here is a list of items the students will be using. If you can sign up to bring something that would be awsome. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0F4CA5AA2EA1FE3-46542784-hotcocoa
If you are interested in helping to serve hot coco, make Christmas cards or decorations please send me a message on Dojo.
Whole Group Comrehension
Every morning we meet up on the carpet and discuss text (fiction, non fiction, books, poems, etc). Most days we work from our new English Langauge Arts books, Wit and Wisdom. This week we are taking a break and reading some of my favorite stories, and while they are not Christmas themed they are still beautifully illustrated and written. Jan Brett is an author illustrator many of your children are already a little familar with and and I am super excited to read these books this week.
Birthday Celebration
If your child has a bithday this month, please touch bases with me about treats for our birthday celebration on Thursday.
Learning Targets for the Week
We CAN differentiate between open, closed, magic e, vowel teams and R CONTROLLED syllables.
We can spell one and two syllable words.
We CAN sequence fiction and discuss cause and effect.
We CAN fluently add and subtract to 20.
We CAN tell time to the nearest 5 minutes.
Fluency Poem of the Week
Fluent reading is a major part the 2nd grade reading ccurriculum. Fluent means reading all the words correctly, using emotion when you read (not reading like a robot), and going the right speed (not too fast or too slow). To practice fluency each week we will have a fluncy poem, that we will read every day in class. On Fridays the kids get to perform the poem for the class.
Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul
With a corncob pipe and a button nose
and two eyes made out of coal
Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale they say
He was made of snow but the children
know how he came to life one day
There must have been some magic in that
old silk hat they found
For when they placed it on his head
he began to dance around
