Congratulations to those students who have auditioned for the Korimako choir. They practise after school and will perform in the Waitomo Caves at the end of the year.
Congratulations and Thank You to those students who are in the Waitomo Music Festival choir. They practice at school with the conductor each Friday and perform in a massed choir with children from all the primary schools in Te Kuiti. This is at the Les Munro Centre.
Production 'Break a Leg' - is written by one of our students Grandparents. The seniors have the main roles with Rimu and Nikau students having a part singing and dancing within selected scenes.
We will be calling for help from our parents as the performance time approaches.
Class Trip 2024: There has been no decision on this yet, except we would like to keep it local this year. It will need to be in Term 4 to avoid Music Festival and Production focus in Term 3. We aim to keep the cost no more than $100/child.

Saint Mary MacKillop and the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart started our school in 1921. St Mary's feast day is on August 8th
Parent Help and Thanks
"Never see a need without doing something about it" quote from Saint Mary MacKillop. 😁 Her sisters in Te Kuiti sold violets to keep the school running!
Mrs Sheryl Knight has been sorting out our front garden along with Mr Grainger. Thank you Sheryl and Michael. It will be much tidier when it is finished and planted.
The children are growing seeds for the garden they cleaned up. It does need some more soil and a good digging over before this happens. If anyone is around and can do this we would appreciate the help.
Library books: We have a number that need to go into the library. They need to be covered. Do we have anyone who might like to take a couple home and do this over a week?
Production: We will need help with the Production as we get closer to WEEK 8 and September the 19th. Please consider offering your time and skills during this week.
Assessment and Reporting
Thank you for coming to the Interviews last term. If anyone missed out or would like to see either Rachael or Suzanne this term, please phone to arrange a time.
We welcome your feedback and support.
Mrs Laver and Mrs Downey are training for BSLA (Better Start - structured literacy approach). There has been some extra assessments of the students to obtain benchmarks for this course.
What does the water in our tohu (emblem) represent and where does it come from?
St. Joseph's School Tohu/Emblem
At the heart of our school is the Cross (Celtic cross). The cross is a sign of both Christ himself and that the Christian virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity.
The blue and green colors are symbolic of the Rangi me to Whenua (sky and earth), from which life comes and goes.
The railway line is Te Ara Rerewe o Turongo that runs through Te Kuiti. Its korero holds a place in our local history. Te Ara Tika is St Joseph’s link to Te Kuiti town and the facilities we use as a Kura.
The awa is the Mangaokewa. Water is especially significant to us in our liturgies and symbolises the respect we have for all life from conception to natural death and the environments within which life journeys.
Originally the design was created by our students and overtime has been developed into the tohu it is today.
