Blazing New Trails: Bringing the Trailblazer to Life
Dear Families,
As we approach the summer break, I've been taking some time to reflect on the past school year. It was quite a journey, filled with incredible moments and challenges. Our work isn't always easy, but having all of you as part of our team makes a world of difference. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the work you do to support your children and our school.
Together, we accomplished extraordinary things through our shared vision of "Growing Stronger Together." Now, as we gear up for the next chapter of our journey, get ready to embark on an exciting new adventure. This year our theme will be: "Blazing New Trails!"
We're bringing the Trailblazer spirit to life in all its glory! Our aim is to ignite a greater sense of school spirit while modernizing the learning experience for today's Trailblazers. Of course our ultimate goal is to deliver HIGH QUALITY instruction and to make learning more engaging, relevant, and enjoyable. We are working hard to ensure ALL of our students are successful
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. I am truly excited about what lies ahead for us as we take on new challenges and discover new opportunities together.
Thank you,
Principal Salinas

Summer Meals
Norman-Sims is a Meal Site
Children need nutritious meals to learn, grow, and thrive—even when school is out. Through federally funded Texas Department of Agriculture meal programs, AISD provides free breakfast and lunch for students at many schools throughout the summer.
Who qualifies for free summer meals:
Students participating in on-site summer programs at eligible schools.
Any child in the community younger than 19.
Enrolled students with disabilities up to 21 years old.
How to find free meals this summer:
Families may use the following tools to find a meal site anywhere in Texas:
Call 2-1-1 to speak to a live operator.
Visit www.SummerFood.org for an interactive site locator map.
Text FOOD or COMIDA to 304-304.
Families may also find district meals sites on the AISD website.
How it works:
Children in the community enjoy free summer meals regardless of household income and without any registration or identification. Children do not have to be enrolled in Austin ISD to receive free summer meals. Summer meals are served in the cafeteria and must be enjoyed on campus during the designated service times.
Good to know: All AISD meal sites are closed July 3-7, click here to view community food resources. Meal sites and times are subject to change.
Food Service may only provide free summer meals at eligible sites where at least 50 percent of the children residing in the area are members of households that meet the income standards for free or reduced-price meals.
In compliance with Department of Agriculture guidelines, summer meals must be served and consumed on-campus during the designated breakfast and lunch times. AISD is not permitted to provide bundled meals (breakfast + lunch), multi-day meal packs, to-go meals, weekend meals, or distribute food from curbside locations.

Summer Slide
Did you know that research shows that students can lose valuable academic skills and knowledge over the summer months if they don't engage in educational activities? The summer slide can set students back and make it more challenging for them to catch up when the new school year begins.
However, there's good news! By taking simple steps to prevent the summer slide, we can ensure that our children maintain their academic progress and are ready to hit the ground running when school resumes.
- Encouraging daily reading
- Providing opportunities for hands-on learning
- Exploring educational resources are just a few ways we can combat the summer slide.
Together, we can make this summer a time of growth and learning. Let's keep our students engaged, curious, and excited about their education. By nurturing their academic skills during the break, we can help them build a solid foundation for future success.
