May 2022
A Farewell Message From Superintendent Ron Hanson
Dear NPPS colleagues, families, students, and community,
My heart is full. I head into retirement with enormous pride. I have witnessed the happiness of our seniors at Bauer Field. Thanks to our combined efforts, every student who walks across that stage is a success story. It takes thirteen years to make this happen.
Together, we’ve assisted 100% of our elementary schools to become GREAT schools, each secondary school to become GOOD schools, and the NPPS District to become a GREAT school district based on the Nebraska Department of Education accountability system. The North Platte Public School District has worked hard to become a great school district. It is a district that collaborates to create a culture of greatness to ensure adults can support students to learn in collaboration with family, businesses, and community members.
We have done this together; our staff, families, students, and community. When we work together, we accomplish great things.
THANK YOU . . .
To our teachers, librarians, and counselors; for the hard work, dedication, and the sense of care you show each day to educate our children and help them grow.
To our district and school leaders; for your hard work to provide our children and staff with the relationships, the programs, and the environment to thrive.
To our support staff; you are the silent heroes; we know how hard you work, how much you care, and the support you provide to our teachers and students.
To our bus drivers, school nutrition staff, custodial and maintenance, and technology teams; the best schools in the world mean nothing if children can’t get to school and activities safely, get the nutritional meals they need for success, and learn in safe, supportive, and clean learning environments.
To our students; you are why we all do what we do every day. Thank you for allowing me and the district staff to be part of your educational journey.
To our families; for trusting us with your children and being our daily partners in allowing them to learn and grow in schools that are safe, supportive, and caring schools.
And to our Board of Education; for the confidence you have shown in me, your belief and support for the past seven years. North Platte Public Schools has been built on a foundation of greatness and will continue to prevail in the future.
As of July 1, Dr. Todd Rhodes is taking over as your superintendent. Much has been shared already about our incoming leader, but you can check out this page for another look. I’ve genuinely enjoyed getting to know Dr. Rhodes over these past few months. Not only does he have outstanding credentials and experience, but his caring nature and positive mindset are evident, and that is essential to the work that we have done and continue to do. I am grateful that our Board of Education has made such a great choice to serve our students, staff, teachers, and families.
The future looks great!
Sincerely,
Ron Hanson
Superintendent

Online Registration Update
NPHS Families - From July 15th - Aug 31 we will be opening Online Registration Update. All families of students who are returning to NPPS this fall must login to your Parent Portal account and fill out an Online Registration Update for their students. This process helps us get updated information on your student including health updates, release forms, etc. You will NOT need to do the Online Registration Update if your family is new to the district for this fall and you have already completed the Online Registration for Fall 22-23. If you have any questions or need a parent portal account setup please let us know at the NPPS Welcome Center, welcomecenter@nppsd.org.
Chromebooks over summer
Current 6th graders - 11th graders, over the summer you are welcome to use your Chromebook for your learning. We ask that you remember to keep your assigned Chromebook stored safe and with a charge. Leaving a Chromebook sit without a charge for an extended time can damage the battery. If you have any outstanding issues with your Chromebook, please let your teacher know so our techs can get these issues fixed for you.
NPHS Graduating Class of 2022,
We would like you to know that your assigned school issued Chromebook is yours to keep if you would like. After the end of the school year on May 19th, we will un-assign them as being district owned and removed from district settings. The Chromebook device is given to you as-is and the district will not provide support after May 19th. If you don’t wish to keep the device, please turn it into the High School Tech office in the media center between May 11th and May 19th.
Your school district email account will remain active through the end of July after which it will be deactivated. You are encouraged to create a personal Gmail account if you haven’t already done so. If you would like to copy your documents out of your school account you can use Google Takeout to do so.
Congratulations on your achievement!

1:00 pm – Until Food is Gone
This is an OPEN AIR, DRIVE THRU Distribution. Patrons will drive their car through a line, and volunteers will bring the boxed food to the car. Free of charge. 325 Households will be served on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Food Bank of Heartland sponsors the Food Pantry.
Please start the line OUTSIDE of the school parking lot next to the tennis courts. DO NOT COME INTO THE PARKING LOT PRIOR TO THE SEMI UNLOADING THE DISTRIBUTION ITEMS.
If you are in the parking lot prior to the gates opening, we will ask you to move your vehicle. When the mobile distribution begins, cars can drive up to the gate by the Northeast corner of the football field. Patrons will drive through the alley between the football field and the high school building, exiting on West A Street. Use only the entrance closest to the tennis courts to avoid congestion as students leave after school. While waiting for the distribution to begin, you need to follow all traffic laws. Do not block driveways or streets for any reason. Safety is our number one concern, and we do not want anyone to get hurt.
