Badger Blast: March 25-30

Welcome back! We hope that you were able to get some rest -- and got healthy -- over Spring Break. We'll wrap up the month of March this week and then April will be upon us. April brings us a full month of activities including testing windows, musical programs and lots of other activities.


We also head into the stretch run of the 2019-20 school year as we begin the fourth 9 weeks of the school year. Go Badgers!

KINDERgarten registration & roundup

Kindergarten Registration was in March and Kindergarten Roundup is this week, , but if you missed your time to register, it's not too late! contact Perritt Primary at 870-246-2260 for more information and keep in mind that the Kindergarten screening is set for Wednesday, March 27, from 8:00 am - 6:00 pm. See the image below for details on what to expect during the screening process.

goza jazzler tryout packets available

Jazzler packets are available in the Goza Middle School office for current sixth and seventh graders. Packets are due March 28th by 3:15 PM. Tryouts will be held the week of April 1-5th. A mandatory parent meeting will be held at 5:30 PM at Goza on Monday, April 1st.

APSD IMPLEMENTING STANDARD RESPONSE PROTOCOL FOR EMERGENCY SITUATIONS

The Arkadelphia Public School District, in conjunction with the Arkadelphia Police Department and the Clark County Sheriff's Office, is implementing the "Standard Response Protocol" to be used in the case of an emergency at any of the district's campuses.


The SRP is a free program from the I Love You Guys Foundation that allows organizations to have common terminology, visual aids and instructions for all groups to employ in the event of an emergency situation at a campus.


APSD School Resource Officers and administrators have begun working with faculty, staff and students to educate them on the terminology and visual aids used in the program.


Recently in the Badger Blast we have been directing you to the SRP website. Then a few weeks ago, we were advised to implement the "Lockout" portion of the SRP by local authorities due to an incident in town. Since the program is still in the implementation stages, there was some confusion between the terms "Lockout" and "Lockdown."


There are a few things that we noticed that can be done better in the event we have to implement the SRP in the future and one of those is that in the future we will be sending out a text notification if any of the four areas of the SRP are put into action. Just one week before last week's incident, we were in discussion about whether or not to issue a district-wide text notification during a "Lockout" since there is no imminent threat to students. We learned after Thursday that it's better to utilize our text notification system in any case so as to try to help alleviate confusion.


This incident also is a good time to tell you to pencil in the evening of Tuesday, April 9, for a district-wide informational meeting about the SRP program to help parents and community members be on the same page. We set the meeting before our most recent event, but it reinforced the need to have such an event to help parents understand the program. To get a head start on the meeting and learn more about SRP, we urge you to see the information below and visit the I Love You Guys Foundation website. We'll be sending out more information about meetings specifics as plans are finalized. The safety of our students is of utmost importance to APSD, APD and CCSO and we want parents to know about the Standard Response Protocol.Be on the lookout for information regarding an informational meeting in April for parents to attend to learn more about APSD's use of the SRP. SCHOOL LUNCH MENUS ON APP

The school lunch menus are located on the official APSD App (available in the App Store and on Google Play) as well as the link below on the APSD website (just click the image below the next paragraph).


For those parents who use the app to check school lunch menus, a change was made before Thanksgiving Break and menus are again available on each school's portion of the app. For some reason, the menus had just been populated to the APSD section of the app. From now on, you should be able to locate the school lunch menus on your respective school's page on the app. Normal procedure is for menus to be uploaded for the entire month at the beginning of the month.

PEAKE ALUMNI FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

Arkadelphia High School seniors will be able to pick up scholarship applications for two scholarships awarded by the Peake High School Alumni Foundation beginning on January 30. The applications for the Richard and Roberta Griffith Scholarship and the Peake High School Alumni Foundation scholarship are available to pick up in the AHS counselors's office.The amount of each scholarship is $1,000 and the deadline for applications to be postmarked is March 31, 2019.
