Computer Science Update
Every LASD TK-8th grade student learns computer science in our schools. They learn how to use code to express their creativity and make projects that are relevant to them. Computer science builds problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity skills, and provides a way to experiment with math concepts.

Computer science education in LASD is tailored to each grade level. TK students don't use screens, but learn to program on Bee Bots. The culmination of our computer science program is in 8th grade, when students use their programming skills to understand how computers work, study algorithms, data, the internet and learn to design and code their own projects.
TK-6th grade students learn computer science as part of the curriculum. Students engage in projects that apply their computer programming to hands-on experiences. Junior high students experience computer science in their core classes, such as math and science. They can also sign up for computer science elective courses if they choose.
LASD students enjoy these incredible computer science programs due to the generous funding from our community through the Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF). Enjoy Winter Break!
I want to wish all of our families a relaxing and enjoyable Winter Break! This is always a wonderful time of year to reconnect with family and friends, sharing all that we have experienced so far, as well as our aspirations for what lies ahead.
It's been an incredible year of learning with your students and we hope you will have a little time to reflect with them on what they've learned so far in this school year. We are so proud of all they have achieved and look forward to more in 2023!
Thank you for remembering to ensure your child takes a COVID test prior to their return to school after the Winter Break, even if they do not have symptoms. We are thrilled that illness has been kept at bay in our schools due to all of our families' and staff diligence to stay home when feeling sick and testing regularly.
Have a wonderful break and I look forward to seeing you in the New Year!
