A librarian and teacher since graduating from Texas Woman’s University with a Library Science degree in 1979, Marsha Majors Edney has focused on helping people connect with information in all venues.
In our exponentially shifting world with expectations of excellence, problem solvers, and catalysts, our students today have larger steps to take to be life ready for careers, families and world experiences. Preparation is a grander challenge than ever before with more information and less time spent analyzing the myriad choices before them. Still ever present are the socio-economic differences and learning curves of our not school ready students as they enter early grades without the head start of skills necessary to successfully achieve the literacy, computations and vocabulary for their future needs.
A career librarian embracing the challenges of blending print and digital sources, I eagerly look for the opportunities to help students, teachers, support staff, and administrators develop their skills of digital literacy, analyzing information, creating productive assignments to stimulate students thinking and working collaboratively. I foster an evolving library from a “shush” zone to a vibrant component of the school climate; an area that sponsors opportunities to blend diverse people in a comfortable, working, relaxing area conducive to productive and stimulating conversations or individual time.
