On Wednesday, October 2nd, during our Walk/Bike to School Day, we are asking students to wear red bracelets (that will be given out to to them in school a day before) to show support for Reese, a third-grader at Mann who is fighting cancer, and for cancer awareness.
Also, there will be a Superhero Book Drive!!
Mann is hosting a book drive for our superhero, Reese. Please consider donating a new or very gently used children's book, chapter book, or youth adult book in honor of Reese. All genres are welcome. Books can be dropped off in the school lobby starting October 3.
Reese's family will be giving the books to Shriner's Hospital for Children at 2211 N. Oak Park Avenue.

Junior Achievement - Message from Charlisa Pugh (former Mann Parent)
This will be our third year participating in Junior Achievement’s JA in a Day, a unique educational enhancement program. Former Mann Parent, Charlisa Pugh works for Junior Achievement of Chicago and is partnering with our school to introduce financial literacy to our students starting in Kindergarten. The past response from students, teachers and parent volunteers has been very positive! Through volunteers, Junior Achievement delivers relevant, hands-on experiences that empower students to make a connection between what they learn in school and how it can be applied in the real world.
This year’s event will take place at the school on Friday, October 25th 8-11 a.m.
We are looking for parent volunteers who are interested in serving in their child’s classroom. The lessons are laid out in an easy to follow format and the kits include fun, engaging activities for the students to participate while they learn. Additionally, the curriculum aligns with the State of Illinois and Common Core standards, so many of the skills are an enhancement to what the students have or will be learning in class. Please find out more about Junior Achievement at http://www.jasd.org/
Charlisa Pugh our JA liaison is taking volunteers on a first come first serve basis so if the date and time commitment works for you, please email her at cpugh@jachicago.org or call 708-456-1400 ext. 255 ASAP so she can slide you into the slot for your child’s class. There will be a brief training closer to the day of the event. Please contact Charlisa Pugh if you have any questions or concerns.
