Census Day!
April 1, 2020
April 1, 2020, is Census Day!
Wherever you live on April 1, 2020, is where you will be counted for the 2020 Census.
The census happens every ten years. Everyone who resides here, regardless of citizenship, must participate; it is the law. Once you have completed the census questionnaire for your household, you are done and will not be contacted by the census bureau workers any further. Respond early to avoid having a census worker visit you at home.
The census is a way for our community to seek the necessary financial support from the government that it needs. Our schools depend on the census count for accurate program funding.
Census workers are not permitted to ask you questions about your immigration status. They will not ask for your social security number and they will not ask for money. If this happens to you, it is a census scam and you should not respond.
It is against the law for the census bureau to share information with other entities like the FBI or ICE. Your information will NOT be shared.
On this page, you will find many resources. Some are for our teachers to use in classrooms and some are informative for our community members.
Should you have any questions about the Census, seek a trusted messenger. In Yakima, that could be organizations like La Casa Hogar or the Yakima Valley Community Foundation.
