In addition to this, our lessons will guide students in developing their vocabulary as they explore characters in depth and try to explain their motivations.

What makes Count Olaf such a 'sinister' villain?
What interesting terminology have you used this week? What does it mean?
Would you like to read more books in this series?
This term, Year 8 will study a range of different poems that will expose them to different cultures and experiences. Students will consider what constitutes ‘culture’ and how different cultures may interact and relate to one another. Already this term, students have explored the poems of Benjamin Zephaniah, John Aagard and Tom Leonard, exploring a multicultural Britain, the role that skin colour may play in both defining and limiting identity, and conflict that may arise between speakers of different accents or dialects.
Questions:
What is 'culture'?
How do different aspects of life influence your culture?
What is the most memorable poem that you have studied so far? Explain why.
Year 9 - Adventure
This term, year 9 students have been exploring the writing of different explorers and adventurers. Through a range of fiction and non-fiction extracts, student have explored the writers’ different perspectives and experiences, using this as an opportunity to develop their skills of close language analysis to prepare them for their GCSE study next year. Lessons have encouraged students to develop their own opinions regarding characters’ journeys and their language use.
Questions:
What is the most interesting 'adventure' that you have read so far?
If you could pick one place to have an 'adventure', where would it be?
