Weather Delays and Closures
With temperatures turning colder and inclement weather in the forecast this week, this is the perfect time to remind the community of how we share information when snow and ice prompt inclement weather delays and closures.
A reminder that any closures related to inclement weather this month would be traditional snow days with no virtual instruction.
Timing of decisions
Closure and delay decisions involve careful evaluation of a variety of factors in a short time period. FCPS Superintendent Dr. Cheryl L. Dyson strives to give the community as much warning as possible for closures or delays so families can plan. Based on the forecast and existing road conditions, a decision is made by 5 a.m. whenever possible.
Once a decision is made, the FCPS Maryland Public Affairs team quickly communicates the closure or delay using several communication tools.
Please note the FCPS Public Affairs team is planning a test of its inclement weather software Tuesday, December 13.
How to find out
FCPS swiftly updates several platforms with the inclement weather decision.
Social media: FCPS on Twitter and on Facebook.
Online: All inclement weather closures and delays will be posted to the home page via FCPS.org. By visiting, www.fcps.org/alert, the latest alert message will be posted.
Email/Text messages: FCPS will share email and text alerts of inclement weather via OneCallNow. These messages will be shared in English and Spanish. Families and staff with cell phone numbers and email addresses entered into PeopleSoft will receive the texts and emails.
FCPS-TV: FCPS will post inclement weather closures via FCPS-TV.
Updating the media: FCPS notifies approximately 20 local and regional TV and radio stations. It is not possible to guarantee the news media will announce this information accurately. Be sure to check our platforms to ensure accurate information.
After-school and weekend activities
Generally, when schools are closed due to inclement weather, school-sponsored after-school and evening activities are cancelled or postponed. On non-school days, when the Snow Emergency Plan is in effect in Frederick County, all FCPS programs and activities are cancelled or postponed.
More information
FCPS Regulation 400-02 shares all details about inclement weather closures or delays.
Hearing and Vision Screening
Hearing and Vision Screening will take place for Myersville Elementary students on Thursday, January 12th and Friday, January 13th for new enterers to the Maryland public school system or any student who missed a previous screening due to COVID-19 school closure or absence. Maryland State Law mandates this screening. The re-screen date is Friday, February 3rd for students that did not pass this initial screening or were absent.
Parents/guardians who have an objection to this screening based on the tenets and/or practice of their church or religion must submit a written request for their child to be exempt from the screening. All written requests must be submitted to the health room BEFORE the day of the screening.
Please make sure if your child wears glasses or contacts that they have them on the screening days. If you have any questions, please contact the health room at 240-236-1880.

IF THERE IS A DELAY OR CLOSURE ON THURSDAY, THE HOLIDAY GIFT SHOP WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY USING THE SAME SCHEDULE.
Holiday Gift Shop
MYES Families,
The Myersville PTA is hosting a Holiday Gift Shop for MYES students. During the shopping days, Thursday, December 15 and Friday, December 16, classes will take turns visiting the shop and students will have the opportunity to purchase inexpensive, but meaningful items for their loved ones.
This week, students will receive information in their folders with more detailed instructions on how to prepare for and participate in the shop. On the student’s shopping day (see here for class schedule), parents will send cash in a provided envelope that lists who their child is shopping for and any price limits per person. Gift items range from $.25 to $12. Students will shop and presents will be wrapped and labeled to take home that day. Note that The Holiday Gift Shop is cash only.
The PTA is also still looking for a few final volunteers to help out during the shopping days. Click here if you are interested in signing up for a volunteer shift.
We look forward to sharing the gift of giving with your students.
Happy Holidays!
