Chameleon Chronicle October Edition
Chameleons are BRAVE!
Dear Howe Hall AIMS Families!
We are so excited to begin the month of October! We have been working hard over the last few weeks with infusions, exploratories, the UFLI and Heggerty phonics programs, and so much more. Everyone made an effort to support kindergarten chameleons with their color unit by wearing different colors every day over the last two weeks. It is that time of year that we will begin our search for our artists to work with each grade level.
Oh What a Colorful Day in Kindergarten!
We had an amazing time in kindergarten! Over the last two weeks we learned all about the Crazy Color Creatures! The Crazy Color Creatures taught us many different things. Not only did we learn about primary and secondary colors but those fun creatures taught us about rhyming words, nouns, verb, adjectives, alliteration and onomatopoeias! We also learned some cool dance moves. To end our unit of study, we rotated through different color stations where we were able to paint our very own t-shirts, sort colors, play color bingo and make myrple purple slurples!! We could not have had such a successful day without all of our wonderful volunteers-you guys ROCK!!!
Infusion at a Glance
Art
Fifth Grade students developed logical interpretations by making predictions, inferring, and drawing conclusions from famous works of art. Then students wrote narratives to develop imagined experiences or events using effective techniques, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences.
Music
Students in 4th grade have been learning about the Native American tribes of South Carolina. For our infusion lesson we focused on a particular tribe, the Catawba, located in the northern part of South Carolina. Students learned a song in their language. We added xylophones, Tubanos, hand drums and bells. The song featured four birds in nature: the goose, the blue jay, the woodpecker, and the robin. Students used rattles made from the shells of nuts as they “flew” their birds around the circle.
Theatre
In 3rd grade science students are learning about force and motion. Our theatre teacher, Mrs. Rogers and our science teacher, Mrs. Earl teamed up to create a dynamic learning experience teaching force and motion through stage combat. Scan the QR code to see the lesson in action.
Dance
The entire second grade learned how beginning, middle and end are important in both reading and writing during a recent dance infusion. Students brainstormed items that had a beginning, middle and end, such examples were books, stories, a boardgame and the list went on. They then learned a beginning shape, a middle movement phrase (brief section of choreography) then an ending shape. Later they analyzed and reviewed each section of choreography.

First grade students had a ball while practicing their number recognition skills #1-10. We also worked on adding and subtracting while performing their exercises and locomotor skills. They loved the stations that we had set up and they said their favorite was the number line hopping.
