The MelonVine Yearbook staff has finished the yearbook, and we’re moving on to our last project of the year...Senior Keepsakes!

What is a Senior Keepsake, you may be asking? Well, it’s an 8” x 10” photo collage of senior pictures that we take, and then give them for FREE for acting as a model to help us improve our photography and PhotoShop skills.

Here’s how it works: They come by Mrs. Gilley’s room, F210 to let us know they want to participate; we’re going to take the first 25 seniors to sign up.

We will shoot all pictures here on campus, during school time by appointment. Then we’ll give them access to all the images of them and the free 8” x 10” Senior Keepsake collage of the best photos that we create especially for them!

Last year was our first year for this project, and these Senior Keepsake collages turned out beautifully! Have them come by room F210 today and sign up! The deadline for signing up is next Thursday.

The Lady Roo Track team competed in the District meet this Wednesday and Thursday at Kangaroo Stadium. As a team, the Varsity girls finished in 3rd place out of 7 schools. Many individuals qualified for the Area meet on April 20th in Keller.

Qualifiers include:

Sadie Tharp- 4th in 1600 and 3200 meters

Cassidy Griffin- 2nd in pole vault

Tyler Bowman- 3rd in pole vault

Jayla Schultz- 2nd in triple jump and 1st in long jump

Guadalupe Solorozano- 2nd in shot put and 3rd in discus

4 x 100 relay placed 3rd with Tatum Wright, Kara Rothrock, Dayla Roberts and Jayla Schultz

4 x 200 relay place 3rd with Tatum Wright, Kara Rothrock, Dayla Roberts and Jayla Schultz

Many athletes turned in personal best performances at the meet.

Students, do you need to take the SAT for college? The SAT will be given here at WHS for the first time ever on Saturday, June 3rd! This is a great opportunity to take the SAT right here at your school. The deadline to register at CollegeBoard.org is May 9th. Again, the SAT will be given at WHS for the first time ever on Saturday, June 3rd. For questions about the SAT or to see if you are eligible for a fee waiver, email your counselor or stop by the Counseling Center. The Dress Exchange is back! If you have dresses you've let sit in the closet too long, come donate them to k204, and let someone else put them to good use! Likewise, if you are in need of an extra dress for, say, PROM, or a banquet, you may come take a peek!

Attention Seniors – Scholarship season is here! Did you know that last year’s senior class was awarded over $3.5 million dollars in scholarships? Let’s make this year the best year ever for scholarship awards. Many scholarships have deadlines coming up right away. Scholarships are available for all students who have a desire to attend college. Go to the Counseling Office often to get the latest information on scholarships and pick up applications.

Jim Bozzell Rotary Community Service Scholarship: This $1,000 scholarship is for students who have completed community service hours, have financial need, and leadership potential. Grades are important even though there is not a GPA requirement. The application deadline is April 15, 2017. Applications are available in the Counseling Center. Students will need to submit a one-page essay about how community service work has impacted their lives.

Larry Mangrem Scholarship: Students planning to attend The University of Texas at Austin are eligible for this $1,000 scholarship. Applicants must fill out an application, enclose a transcript, and write a one-page essay about their career plans. Students will also need to enclose a copy of their Letter of Acceptance to UT. Come by the Counseling Center for an application. The deadline is April 28, 2017, so all future Longhorns need to apply soon!
