Thank you Lewistown Community for registering with Weis for the WEIS4School program! Lewistown Elementary School was recently awarded over $3000 for last year's purchases!!! These funds will be used to support YOUR children!

Lewistown January Volunteer Orientation
Please complete the volunteer registration training and attend the LES Volunteer Orientation to volunteer at LES! Volunteer opportunities include helping in the classroom, preparing items at home for a teacher or helping to run the Tiger Reward Cart.
Please fill out a FCPS application and training (below). Lewistown will be hosting a Volunteer Orientation with a light continental breakfast on January 9th from 8:45 to 9:15 for all that have applied. We are looking forward to partnering with you!

Lewistown Hygiene and Clothing Drive Success!
Our hygiene and clothing drive was a huge success!! Thank you to all the families that donated items. As a school, we collected almost 500 items to donate to SHIP! The 2nd grade won the golden Generosity Award for donating the most items as a grade level. Way to go LES!

Attendance = Opportunities
As a feeder, we continue our commitment to attendance knowing that being at school each day opens opportunities for our students. Please take a look at the attendance rates for each school in our Feeder.
December and January are very important months for each and every Lewistown child to attend school. Our doors open at 8:15 and instruction begins at 8:45. It is important (both for the students and the school) that students are on-time and present. When students are tardy, they miss important announcements, time to eat breakfast and prepare themselves for the school day.
While we want and expect students to be in school every day, this is also the season of illness! In those cases, please communicate regarding your childโs absence (a note when he/she returns and/or an email to lew.attendance@fcps.org ). If their illness results in a doctorโs visit, please ask for a note and submit that to the school to appropriately document the absence. When absent, students should be in touch with his/her teachers and do work from home when possible. Over the course of the next week, families will be receiving letters if their child is considered chronically absent or doctor's notes are required. Please reach out to the front office if you have any questions.
It is our strong partnership and communication that will support studentsโ good attendance which will support their academic success and social-emotional well-being. We are sharing class and individual attendance shout outs at the end of each day to celebrate and highlight attendance!
*Attendance rate: An overall school attendance rate of 94% or higher is considered proficient.
**Chronic absenteeism: A student is defined as chronically absent if he/she misses 10% or more of the school days.
Save the date! CHS Santa's Workshop: Dec. 2nd
Catoctin High School invites you to participate in our annual Santa's Workshop on December 2nd from 9:00a - 12:00p. Various CHS organizations are excited to provide free holiday-themed crafts and activities, including pictures with Santa, a cozy reading corner, and cookie decorating. Weโre also holding a Winter Gnome Plaza where your child can shop for gifts for their loved ones, or you can purchase donuts, coffee, and hot chocolate. Items will be $10 and less. In addition, Sleep in Heavenly Peace will have a representative present that day for families who would like more information about their programs. Donations of twin sheets, comforters, and pillows for their beds would be appreciated! We are excited to support this wonderful organization this year.
December Food Drop
Thurmont Middle School will be having their monthly food drop on December 7th from 3:30 to 4:30. No application, no requirement and no questions asked. Just line up in your car at the school. When you pull up volunteers will put food in your car and you drive off. This is a popular event that is held the first Thursday of every month. It regularly runs out of food so line up early!
