It's Connected Educator Month
To be a connected educator, you need to be a Connected Learner. Connected learners develop networks and co-construct knowledge from wherever they live. Connected learners collaborate online, use social media to interact with colleagues around the globe, engage in conversations in safe online spaces, and bring what they learn online back to their classrooms, schools, and districts. They do so to interact with colleagues around the globe, engage in conversations in safe online spaces, and bring what they learn online back to their classrooms, schools, and districts.
We have many connected educators at Roosevelt! Have you checked out Google+? Or have a Twitter account? If you want help becoming a connected educator, please, let me know and I can help you!
Hour of Code - Are you In?
Even though you may not understand everything there is to know about coding (I know I don't), exposing students to computer programming also challenges them to be problem solvers, project designers, and communicate their ideas.
The Hour of Code is coming... Is your class going to participate? Mark one hour during the week of December 8-14th on your calendar and check out the Hour of Code website. I'd love to know what Roosevelt classes are participating. If you are planning on trying to incorporate this, please let me know!
Do you want to try your hand and coding? Check out Made with Code's projects for a fun experience!
Google Classroom Updates! You ask - they listen!
As you know, Google Classroom launched this summer to make Google Apps for Education even simpler — saving teachers time and making it easier to collaborate with students.
On Tuesday, Google launched five improvements to Classroom, focusing on things educators and students around the world told us were most important to them:
Mark assignments as “done”: Students can mark assignments as complete even if there's nothing to turn in (e.g. watch a video, read a chapter, bring something to class)
Export all grades: Teachers will now have the ability to download grades for all assignments at once, making it easier to export assignments to any gradebook
Sorting: Teachers can now choose to sort students by first or last name, depending on their needs
Greater teacher controls: Teachers can now set permissions for whether or not their class can post or comment in the stream, they can mute individual students from posting or commenting and can even view previously deleted items in the stream
Hopefully this is good news for you to hear! Keep providing feedback to Google and I'm sure this product will constantly evolve into the best it can be! As always, If i can help you with any of this, please let me know. I'm always happy to help and troubleshoot with you!
