Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week! This week and every week, we want to acknowledge all of our staff for everything they do for our students. For the countless hours spent planning, grading, attending events, delivering engaging lessons, and so much more, we appreciate you!
Spring continues to be a fun, busy season for CHS. This past week, we had a successful plant sale and were able to donate tomatoes and other plants to the Canby Center. Yesterday we had successful parent teacher conferences. Thanks to all attendees. We are pleased to provide both in person and online options for parents to engage with our staff. Today we held a Decision Day event for seniors to celebrate their next steps.
Coming up, Band is playing at the state championships tomorrow. We are looking forward to Prom this weekend. Please see important information for attendees below. OHSET is currently competing at state, and our Women’s Rugby team is competing at semi-finals this weekend as well.
Next week, we have our CTE Summit on Wednesday morning to highlight our Career and Technical Education programs. The public is invited. More information on the CTE Summit is below. On Thursday, our current seniors will visit their Middle and Elementary Schools and then our incoming freshmen class will come to CHS to visit.
And finally, but certainly not least, our awe-inspiring Concert Choir took home the state championship last weekend. Check out their amazing performance here. Our fabulous choir earned a superior rating and outscored every choir in the state!
Have a wonderful week!
Best,
Cari Sloan

Canby Public Library
Canby Public Library is gearing up to start its annual summer reading challenge that begins June 1, 2023. In addition to the reading challenge, the library has several teen focused events and learning opportunities planned.
Please see the flier below. The Summer Reading Challenge is designed to encourage students to make regular visits to the library over the summer, maintaining their reading skills and helping to develop a lifelong love of reading and learning.
The library is actively seeking volunteers for the Summer. The first step to volunteer with the library is to fill out an application available on its volunteer page: https://www.canbyoregon.gov/library/page/volunteer.
Graduation All Night Party
Please help us celebrate the Canby High School Class of 2023 by signing up to volunteer at the Senior "GAP" All NIght Party on Friday, June 9th. We need as many volunteers as possible to make this an amazing event for our graduates. Senior parents are more than welcome to sign up to help, but we also need parents who do not have seniors. Think of volunteering at this event as paying it forward. Volunteering gives the senior parents a chance to attend graduation, and visit with family and friends who might be visiting for graduation. Then when it's you students turn to graduate, other parents will do the same for you.
When signing up, please make sure that you add an email and a phone number. I will be sending out reminders as we get closer to the event. The location will not be disclosed until a couple of hours before the event, because we want to surprise the student, but know that it is within a half an hour drive.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email Amber Bedortha at canbyamber@yahoo.com.

Attendance at CHS
To ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our attendance process, please remember the following guidelines:
If your student needs to leave class for an appointment or because they are sick, inform the attendance office 30 MINUTES PRIOR to leave time. This will help us ensure that your student receives a note to leave class in a timely manner. Students will not be excused without a note.
Pre-Excused Absence: For any anticipated absence that will be more than three days, students are expected to pick up a Pre-Excused Absence Form from Jessie Munoz at the Attendance Office.
To report an absence, call Jessie Munoz at our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.
Students have 48 hours to have unexcused absences excused. Students may lose the opportunity to make up work for credit due to unexcused absences. Please report an absence as soon as possible.
Remember that attendance matters and students who attend class regularly are more likely to stay on track, graduate on time, learn deeply, and get the most from their high school experience.
