Learning to play a musical instrument takes patience and practice -- and hopefully it's fun, as well. That was the message on Thursday night from the district's elementary band/music teachers Hayden Carnell Schmidt and Gordon Shaw as students from all five elementary schools took to the stage in the Auditorium at Aberdeen High School for the first in-person elementary band concert in two years.

The short selections were enthusiastically received by friends and family. The teachers noted that they see the elementary band students twice a week as 5th graders, but next year at Miller Junior High School, if they stick with it, they will have band class every day and their skills will improve exponentially.

Watch for the All City Band and Orchestra Concert later this spring, currently scheduled for April 27, when these beginning musicians will combine into one big band and all play together for the first time.

The next regular meeting of the Board is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, in the library at Miller Junior High School and via webinar.
