"Sexism? Or Just Skepticism?: Stories from Nobel Scientists"
ADVANCE and the Department of Political Science and Sociology are pleased to present Dr. Alexandra Hendley's seminar "Sexism? Or Just Skepticism?: Stories from Nobel Scientists" at 4pm on Thursday September 14th, 2023 in Faculty Hall 208.
Skepticism, or detached scrutiny of claims, is expected to be applied universally in science. Yet, research suggests that women scientists are more likely than men to have their expertise doubted. Examining speeches given by Nobel scientists, this talk addresses variation in men's and women's stories of skepticism.
Dr. Alexandra (Ali) Hendley is Associate Professor of Sociology at Murray State University. She studies gender inequalities in the workplace, and her published work has appeared in outlets such as Sociological Focus, Advances in Gender Research, and Cultural Sociology.

This panel, ideally, will feature multiple disciplinary perspectives on any aspect of the Medusa myth, feminism, and women’s history. We welcome presentation ideas from any discipline. Presentations need not examine the Medusa myth specifically or directly, but should connect to its thematic elements. Interested? Please complete this form no later than October 15, 2023. Questions?
