The World of Westwood Wolves
Choose Your Own Adventure!
April 25-29, 2022
From the principal's office...
Westwood parents-
We are excited to welcome our 2nd graders' families to watch them perform a musical program this Thursday at 6:00! Students should arrive at 5:30 (we will open the doors at 5:30) and go to their classrooms while families find seats in the cafeteria.
Our 3rd graders are starting the ACT Aspire testing season off strong next week! They will be taking 1 test per day and will begin shortly after 8:00 each morning. It is super important for students to be on time (it's always important but especially during testing) and to be at school unless they are running fever or having tummy issues. It helps them if they've had a good night's rest, and as always, they will have breakfast at school. Students will have an opportunity to earn points during testing to use at a Percy Jackson party in mid-May.
The school board voted to make some adjustments on the calendar/schedule for next year. School will now start on Monday, August 15. Also, next year, elementary students will be dismissed at 3:10 every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Wednesdays only, students will be dismissed at 1:50. This will allow every teacher to have an extended time of collaboration and planning in order to reach our goal of high levels of learning for all (teachers and students). We will continue to have the Afterschool Program at Westwood, and it will begin at 1:50 on Wednesdays. We will be putting out something in the next few weeks to gather information about which students will need afterschool care on the early release Wednesdays.
Speaking of next year, we are applying for a grant that would give us funds for an afterschool program for approximately 100 students. Students would get help with school and fun clubs, activities, etc. We are thinking it would run Monday-Thursday until around 5:30, and kids would get a snack and dinner. Would you help us by filling out a brief survey with your opinion about this idea? Thanks so much! Spanish survey English survey Marshallese survey
Have a great week!
Our 5th grade leaders are running a food drive to benefit our district's mobile treehouse pantry/George Elementary students. If you have any extra canned goods or mac 'n cheese, etc, please send them to school with your students.
Love,
Mrs. Crumby (your proud principal)
