Gator Greetings
Happy New Year! We are looking forward to 2023 being one of our best years yet at Allisonville. After several years of COVID and construction, we have really been able to settle in this year. It was apparent this week as the students returned from winter break and got back to their school routines in a smooth and positive manner. In education, January and February are what we call “optimal learning months” because they are uninterrupted from testing and activities. This allows teachers to really focus on curriculum, differentiation, and student engagement. One of our goals for this semester is to reduce absences and tardies. Please help us maximize your child’s learning experience by ensuring students are in the building each morning by 7:50 and they report to school each day unless are truly ill. We know that attendance is the number one indicator of academic growth because if students are at school daily engaging with their teacher, great learning happens! Parents – thank you for your partnership with our staff at Allisonville.
Report cards from 1st semester went home today. Please get in touch with your child’s teacher with any questions or concerns for their academic progress. We will have a Gator Gathering next Friday, January 20th to kick off our Gator Packs this semester. All students are encouraged to wear their Gator Pack spirit shirt or Pack color next Friday. Picture Retake Day will be Tuesday, January 24th. Any student who is new to our school or did not have their picture taken last September should plan to be “photo ready” on January 24th. Picture order forms can be found in the front office and can be also accessed online.
Don’t forget to sign up for the PTO events this winter. PTO’s largest fundraiser, Trivia Night, is planned for Friday, January 27th at Half Liter in Broad Ripple. This is an adult-only event and will certainly be a fun night to connect with Allisonville parents and staff in a relaxed setting. Pacers Family Night is on Friday, February 3rd. The discounted ticket price includes an Allisonville block of seats, drink, food, and Pacer’s hat. What a deal! Lastly, registration has started for this spring’s Great North Run, which is scheduled for Saturday, March 11th at North Central High School. Our school goal is to have 150+ people register from Allisonville. Early bird pricing ends on January 15th. Be sure sign up for all of these events using the links in this week’s Gator Gazette.
I hope that everyone enjoys the long 3-day weekend as we celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. There are many special events happening around the city; some with free admission/tickets for families to enjoy. This is also a great time to engage in some volunteer work as we continue to learn and honor the values that Dr. King taught us. There will be no school on Monday, January 16th in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
