Why do schools partner with OOD?

Ohio Transition Support Partnership


In 2015, the Ohio Department of Education and Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) launched the Ohio Transition Support Partnership (OTSP). This innovative collaboration changed the nature and impact of transition services for students with disabilities in Ohio. The Partnership increases the availability of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) counselors for students with disabilities beginning at age 14 to improve post-school outcomes. This earlier engagement helps students with disabilities get a head start on becoming job ready and better prepared to enter the workforce with the skills and experiences necessary to be successful.


Because of this increased investment in transition, OOD is serving more students with disabilities than ever before. Now, there is funding for 43 OOD counselors who are partnering with local education agencies to serve students with disabilities throughout the state.

OOD offers Pre-employment Training Skills Workshops
The topics covered in these lessons are:
*Counseling on post-secondary opportunities such as collges and certificated programs
*Self-Advocacy Instruction
*Job Exploration
*Work Based Learning *Work Based Readiness Training
Career Exploration and Work Experience Programs
OOD also offers career exploration and summer youth work experience programs. Students, age 14+, will develop a better understanding of employment by participating. Exploration is tours and job shadowing while work experience is paid employment.
Youth Leadership Forum through OOD
Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities’ Ohio Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) is a five-day career leadership training program for 11th and 12th grade high school students with disabilities. Students will learn self-advocacy and leadership skills.
Ohio College2Careers Program with OOD!
OOD offers Ohio College2Careers at 17 colleges and universities in Ohio to ensure students with disabilities have needed supports to complete their degree and/or credential, earn higher wages, and meet the demands of tomorrow’s labor market.
