Notes from the Nurse
Attendance:
We follow the Safe to School protocol and track attendance very carefully each day. Please be sure to call your child's absence into the front office 781-834-5025 each day that they will not be in school, even if you notify the classroom teacher by email. Emails may not be seen until later in the morning or if the teacher is absent they may not be seen until the next day. If your child has an appointment and will be tardy it is also very helpful to notify us as well in advance, either by a note the day before or a phone call on the morning of the appointment.
Any questions or concerns about attendance please feel free to contact the school.
A Dr's note must be provided to medically excuse any absences.
Illnesses: If you are keeping your child home for more than a day or 2 due to illness- please contact Nurse Mudge, especially if the illness is something that is of a contagious nature. There has been an uptick in illnesses at school, (Seasonal Allergies, Strep throat, Influenza, Gastro-intestinal issues, and Covid- to name a few) please be vigilant in monitoring your children for any symptoms prior to sending them to school.
If you have concerns about illness/ symptoms in the morning- please call the Nurse to discuss before sending them in, as well as questions regarding absences or attendance issues- I am happy to discuss.
Screenings:
BMI screenings will be taking place this month in the Nurse's Office- if you have any concerns about the process, please contact Nurse Mudge
Start the day with breakfast! Research confirms that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. For children’s health, academic achievement, cognitive development and mental health. Healthy eating is an important life skill. It helps children grow, develop and do well in school. It prevents childhood and adolescent health problems such as obesity, dental cavities and iron deficiency anemia. It lowers the risk of chronic disease such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer.
Students have been reminded to choose snacks that are from the 5 food groups: Protein, grains, fruits, vegetables and dairy- spicy/ salty chips and sugary treats often lead to belly aches and blood sugar spikes that cause children to not feel well at school.

PTO NEWS
We still have urgent need for an Enrichment Coordinator for grades 3-5 for the remainder of the year. Many, many thanks to Allie Devaney for all the time and effort she has spent shaping this role and bringing amazing programming to our children! She has definitely set her replacement up for success!
In addition, we are also seeking a Treasurer to begin serving their two-year term next school year. The sooner we find the right person, the more time they will have to shadow the fabulous Ali Goodrich as she prepares to exit the position.
Finally, save the date for some grown-up fun as we host our first inaugural cornhole tourney at Stellwagen on April 12!
