Principal's Welcome
DEAR PARENTS, GUARDIANS, STUDENTS & STAFF
STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL ASSEMBLY - PRIMARY
Our Head Girl, Hannah Toy and Head Boy, Liam Carbery, presented leadership badges at a special Primary School Assembly. They addressed students with the simple message of looking after each other and finding the good in each other - honouring the 2024 value focus of RESPECT.
COMMISSIONING EVENING
Parent support through the Friends of Frayne and the College Advisory Council was acknowledged on Tuesday. Along with the College Leadership Team, the two key parent groups participated in a liturgy that explored the College story. Each parent and member of the College Leadership Team received a unique message stick created by Aboriginal Elder Mrs Cheryl Lennox Bradley. The message sticks hold the College story and values and are replicas of the new message sticks that have been placed in the College foyers. Thank you to Mrs Sarah Quin for facilitating the evening.
Part of the evening was confirmation of key positions on the College Advisory Council and a welcome to new member Ms Veronique Renel to the group.
The following parents are congratulated and thanked for accepting the key Advisory Council positions: CHAIR: Mr Richard Miles | DEPUTY CHAIR: Mrs Mary Turonek | TREASURER: Mr Jason Fair
SWIMMING
Congratulations to all involved in swimming lessons and Carnivals across both campuses.
I was lucky enough to be able to attend the Year 7 to 12 Carnival at Challenge Stadium. Despite some doubt as to whether the Swimming Carnival would go ahead our students and staff celebrated a great day of spirited competition and House engagement. Our House Coordinators were amazing in keeping events full of students.
A special thank you to our newly appointed Sport Coordinator Mrs Claire Woolfitt, supported by Sarah Muhling, Tamara Keyes and the PE team to organise a seamless carnival on the day. We will organise a special presentation of team winners and age group champions in the coming fortnight.

College Celebrations
ASH WEDNESDAY
On Wednesday, 14 February, the College marked the start of Lent with Ash Wednesday. This is a period for reflection, repentance and renewal in the lead up to Easter. The ashes serve as a reminder of our mortality, emphasising the spiritual journey ahead. They symbolise our commitment to sacrifice during this Lenten season. Liturgies were held on both campuses, as well as Forrest Edge Camp for the Year 7 students on camp.
This day was also the launch of our Project Compassion Appeal, urging us to embrace Christian service by truly considering the needs of others.

YEAR 7 CAMP
The first group of Year 7 students headed down to Forest Edge Recreational Camp for three days of bonding with new friends and their teachers. In between the hot weather, there were lovely cool breezes, especially in the morning down at the water activities. The students enjoyed activities including building billy carts, taking a leap of faith on the pamper pole and hoping their raft-building techniques kept them afloat, however, I do believe many were happy for their rafts to come apart so they ended up in the water!!
Due to the extremely hot weather forecast, the second group of Year 7 students will wait until Term Two to participate in the activities

News & Updates
ROTTNEST CHANNEL SWIM
A special event occurred on the weekend where long term staff member Joseph Di Giuseppe was the support paddler for a group of Ursula Frayne students (Eloise Palmer, Bay Bruce, Juliano Scarvaci and Lucia Scarvaci), in the annual Rottnest Channel Swim. This group of students were coached by parent and legend long distance swimmer Tamara Bruce. Tamara is still the fastest female record holder of the event. The students did very well and swam a reasonable distance before the event was cancelled due to extreme conditions.

On Friday, Natalee Calegari was farewelled by the College community. We are grateful for Natalee's contribution. She has been an outstanding teacher, leader and advocate for students. PREPARATION FOR EASTER
On Ash Wednesday we began the 40 days of Lent to prepare us for Easter.
There are many rituals and traditions around this liturgical time. We celebrate Shrove Tuesday with pancakes to symbolise emptying our pantries so we can participate in the fasting and self-sacrifice of Lent. We mark our foreheads with ash to symbolise our mortality and the opportunity to start again renewed in Christ. We collect money for Project Compassion because we are all called to help one another, and we place the cross in the central courtyard to remind us that Christ is present. Symbols and rituals help give us meaning and understanding.
Whether we give of our time, give up meat on Fridays or commit to do something loving every day, Lent gives us the time and opportunity to reflect and build a better us, a better community and a better relationship with God.

BALMORAL CAMPUS CLASS COORDINATOR INDUCTION
It was wonderful to meet with our 2024 Class Coordinators earlier this month at their Induction Evening. Connection in our College community thrives largely on the effort of parent volunteers who willingly take on the Class Coordinator roles at the Balmoral Campus. Thank you to the parents across 18 classes for volunteering, we look forward to a fabulously fun "friend-raising" 2024, connecting and building community.

Faith & Sharing
THE SEASON OF LENT
The 40 days of Lent represents the time Jesus spent in the desert and the 40 years the people of Israel waited to enter the Promised Land. It also symbolises the journey of our life. This journey can be hard at times as well as joyous .
Let us allow this Lent to be a time of reflection, a time to assess how we live our lives and If we need to improve or change our ways to reflect the values of the Gospels.
There are three ways the Church believes we can challenge ourselves during lent:
Almsgiving. Giving of our time, possessions or money to others in need helps us to appreciate and be thankful for all we have and helps us to give ourselves to others.
Fasting. Giving up something like food helps us to see what is important in our life and helps us to see others as God sees them.
Prayer. Spending time speaking with God helps us to understand our life and find the right way to Him.
Let us use all these so our hearts will arrive safely to our destination, which is to be close to Christ and experience the joy that is His resurrection on Easter Sunday.
