Academic Updates
Art Updates
To start the year, students participated in a schoolwide art collaborative project inspired by the work of artist Elizabeth “Libs” Elliott. Elliott is a quilt designer who uses a technology program (she created with artist Joshua Davis) to generate her quilt designs. In this project, the students became the generators to design our school quilt. Each class was provided with a specific color scheme, and each student designed their own quilt 6 by 6 inch quilt square. They then made decisions on where to place and how to arrange their square in their class quilt. The class quilts were then pieced together to create “Our School Quilt”.
P.E. Updates
During the month of September all students are practicing P.E. expectations and procedures. Additionally, students in grades 3-5 are playing games related to chasing, fleeing, and dodging. Lastly, students in grades k-2 are playing games related to directions( over, under, around, through) and spacial awareness.
Any student that follows all directions and expectations during P.E. class gets an “impossible shot.“ There have been many attempts; 3 have been successful. Levi in 4th grade, Elizabeth in 3rd grade, and Thomas in 1st grade.
