NBHS Morning Announcements

Parents,

We have been printing off missing assignment reports every Wednesday and we hand them out to students so that they get their assignments completed each week. We still have several students that are missing multiple assignments. The Q4 MidTerm is this Friday, so please check your child's Family Access Gradebook and encourage them to complete their assignments by Tuesday! If a homework referral has been written for the assignment, the school policy with that the work must be turned in the next day or the assignment becomes a zero. We want to finish the school year PRETZEL STRONG and completing homework is a critical part of academic success!

Here is the timeline for announcing the winners:

• May 1st – WNNS will announce, on air, the winning school. The choir director will be notified that day via email and/or phone.

• May 2nd-May 15th Foreigner’s management team will be in contact with the choir director to arrange details about the show.

• May 16th – Kids sing with Foreigner ON STAGE!

Congratulations to both the NBHS Concert Band and Choir on their earning a Division 2 Excellence and Jazz Band on their earning a Division 1 Superior on their performances at the ISHA Ensemble Competition Friday, April 14th! We are extremely proud of our students and directors!!

As the year unwinds, and we start to get Spring Fever, students start to lose their momentum and motivation to continue to do their best. We have been trying to focus on being responsible and completing homework assignments, and started a Q4 incentive last week. The details are listed below, along with each week's winners!

Congratulations to Tyler Hulett for being named to the Scholastic Bowl All-State Second Team!!! This means he is one of the Top 40 Scholastic Bowl players in the State of Illinois!

February: Owen DeRosear is a charismatic student who always offers his peers feedback on their work. He is someone who is always applying himself to outdo his last project and constantly takes risks. I appreciate that he is never afraid to speak his mind, and always manages to make the class laugh with some off the cuff remark. Along with his success and attitude in the classroom, he had surgery in the beginning of the year and didn't let it hold him back with athletics and classroom performance.

Caroline Peters has really shown a lot of growth in and out of the classroom as a person and a student. She is always on top of her assignments, working on her projects outside of class to make sure they are always on time and quality work, and is never afraid to ask for help when needed. She also has served as a great resource in the classroom for her peers by always offering advice and encouraging them when they're doing really well. On top of her performance in the classroom, she also is a dual athlete with cross country in the fall and track in the Spring, where she really serves as a leader.

FCCLA had a great day at state conference on Friday! Savannah Kramer did a great job competing in the Level 2 State Interior Design Proficiency Event and will share her results when they are announced.

On Monday, April 10th, the Army National Guard presented a Resiliency Brief with our high school students. Resiliency is a key component of Soldier preparedness and readiness in the Illinois Army National Guard. They train Master Resiliency Trainers to be able to meet and motivate Soldiers to excel in life within and outside of the Military. It occurred to them that these skills would greatly benefit High School Students and Faculty by showing them ways to find the good in any situation and face struggles with confidence.

Our New Berlin Students listened to a presentation regarding Resiliency and how when they get knocked down to get back up. That in order to get better we must do better as well as preserve and have grit.

We would like to give a BIG Pretzel Thank You to the presenters: Sergeant First Class Michael Chavez, Staff Sergeant Trevor Davis, and Sergeant First Class Dillon Johnston.

The 20-21 Yearbooks have been ordered and we are still waiting on arrivals. I know it can be frustrating, but there's been a lot of communication back and forth with Jostens regarding this and we are working to get them in ASAP. The 21-22 Yearbooks are almost completed and will be in by the end of the semester.

I really appreciate everyone's patience with the yearbook, and after this year we will be back on track with everything! Please reach out if you have any questions!
