Message from Head of School, Matt McCrea
Dear Families,
Soon, we'll be coming to the end of our first trimester, which means that we are almost one-third of the way through the school year. Time flies! At our middle school, our 8th graders are eagerly looking into their options for high schools, and at our elementary school, our students are getting ready to transition to the next round of creative arts classes. The quick passage of time is also a good reminder to enjoy the time we have now with each other and with our children. Many of you know that I have two little ones at home, and I'm always shocked at how quickly they are growing up and wishing that time would slow down so I don't miss anything.
As we come closer to the holiday season, I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving next week, and to remind our families that if there's ever anything that you need at home or at school, we are here to help you and support you. Please don't hesitate to be in touch with our family engagement team, school leadership, or your child's teacher if there's something that can do for you.
Have a great week!

Unpacking Learning Targets
For students to become leaders of their own learning, they must be aware of what the target is and understand and be able to articulate where their performance is in mastering the target. Reaching, or not quite reaching, a learning target represents critical information for students about what they know and can do, and what they still need to learn.
So once quality learning targets have been determined, teachers at Meridian facilitate conversations to ensure each student understands the identified goal and how to achieve them.
What is the importance of "unpacking" (discussing in depth) learning targets?
- Build understanding and ownership of their learning
- Serves as a valuable part of the lesson
- Students should have a clear picture of what meeting the target looks like and sounds like
Beyond the classroom, you can continue the conversation at home by asking students about their learning targets and what it means to meet these goals. By having these conversations, you will be able to support their goals and further engage in their learning experiences.
Introducing our New OWLS IN ACTION page
We are pleased to announce the addition of an Owls In Action page on the Meridian website. This section will have regular updates about classroom learning, student shout-outs, curriculum and program highlights, and so much more. We hope with this page we will be able to showcase the many accomplishments of our students and bring families into the classroom!
