Collaborating to Create Civic Participation/Capstone Projects Aligned to the Seal of Civic Readiness
Social Studies teachers and school librarians will collaborate to design a civic participation project that is inquiry based and aligns with the K-12 Social Studies Framework, the Empire State Information Fluency Continuum (ESIFC), and uses the guidelines for the Seal of Civic Readiness. Participants will work to determine: -students who will participate -learning outcomes -criteria for success -assessment -how to engage students in the research process -opportunities for student choice, voice, and agency -community partner involvement Participants will be able to describe how the project aligns with Social Studies Practices, the K-12 Social Studies Framework, the ESIFC, and the NYSED expectations for civic participation/capstone projects. They will also begin to design a civic participation/capstone project that encourages critical thinking and communication skills of students. Open to middle and high school teachers and librarians **Librarian and teacher pairs are strongly encouraged to attend together. It will be difficult to do the work of the day without the librarian in the district.

Jennifer LaGarde - Developing Digital Detectives: Next Generation Information Literacy - Communication Coordinator Meeting
Jennifer LaGarde, aka "Library Girl", will present on the topic of next generation information literacy which is found in her book Developing Digital Detectives. Participants will leave with real world ideas that they can apply as soon as they get back to their library on the topic of information literacy. Participants will also receive a copy of Developing Digital Detectives by Jennifer LaGarde and Darren Hudgens.
All school librarians are encouraged to attend. Please register no later than February 28th to ensure you receive a copy of the book.
This will also count as one of the four meetings for SLS Communication Coordinators as mandated by NY State Education Law 90.18.

Collection Analysis with TeachingBooks Resources
Join this hands-on session to learn how to use the tools on TeachingBooks to consider diversity, recency, genres, and the just-right books for your readers. Examine titles in lists and collections and immediately receive a report revealing the cultural areas, genres, word count, reading levels, and more! Then, explore dynamic resources to share with anyone in your community that deepen connections to titles. Attendees will leave this workshop ready to use these tools to examine titles in reading programs, on curricular lists, or in classroom or library collections. If possible, bring a spreadsheet or list of the books to be examined.
