Communication March 2023
L&T Innovation and Educational Technologies
Some of us believe it is hard to write a sentence about innovation in learning and teaching without including educational technologies. However there is much to be said about innovation before we even consider the role edtech plays. This article, The four places where innovation happens, shares the 4Cs for dissemination of innovation. These are four spheres of influence: Classroom, Corridor, Campus and Community.
- The Community encompasses other teaching institutions and professional associations as well as industry and social contexts. Communication channels here extend beyond presentations, academic conferences and journal papers to blogs, podcasts and social media.
These provocations are everyday discussions at TechDem CoP and SIG meetings, at one-on-one digital learning initiative sessions, through the writings on our Conversations, and the Balancing the Shift podcast.
We invite you to explore and, above all, join the conversations when you can!
AI for Educators
This resources is created by Dr John Spencer from the USA. It is a worthy collection of ideas, resources and thoughts around AI in education including John's trademark of unique videos.
In particular, scroll to the very end of the page and access a free downloadable book, 'A beginners guide to Artificial Intelligence in education'
Adventures with AI Video
The tool Synthesia (we have subscribed to create resources for educational technologies) has some interesting features. Shared below are two videos:
- All about your portfolio (designed to replace an older video on the Create@UniSQ site).
- Portfolios Quiz (A simple quiz designed to link in with the first video).
These are quite experimental and provide an alternative approach to sharing essential information and checking understanding.
Now take the quiz!
Padlet Updates - Slideshow and StudyDesk LTI
TWO great updates regarding how you can use PADLET!
- Turn your Padlet into a slideshow. This is really cool! With a little bit of creativity you could design excellent resources with hyperlinks and videos for learning.
- Padlet LTI in StudyDesk. We now have the UniSQ Padlet account integrated into StudyDesk. This means you can easily add your Padlets and not bother with an embed code.
Watch the video below to see how to do use both of these new features.
If you do not have a UniSQ Padlet account please log a request online today!

Virtual Immersive Environments SIG
Did you know Technology Demonstrators now has a new Special Interest Group called Virtual Immersive Environments (VLE). This one is a lot of fun as the ongoing activity to start with is exploration of the tool called Spatial. This is completely browser-based (Chrome preferred) and free to get started. Convened by Lisa Jacka and with the support of Jo Kay, both from the TechDem team, the first expedition into this virtual world took place last week. See the pics below. Explore the Padlet.
YOU are invited to join in - here are the opportunities:
- Every Wednesday at 1pm join Lisa and Jo and others in the UniSQ Spatial Lounge
- Wednesday April 12, 1pm - SIG meeting in the Spatial Ampitheatre
Student Portfolio SIG
Explore the recent Student Portfolio SIG meeting through these resources:
- The interactive slides - you have editing rights...please contribute ideas for future SIGs (slide 2) and ideas based on this session (slides 9 and 10)
- The MP4 recording - a flat file that does not give you the interactivity that took place
- The Playback room - Be adventurous! Use the Engageli facility to access the session, including to the Google slides for interaction - it's an all-in-one opportunity! You can even go in and then invite colleagues at the same time to review the material and discuss. Read more: How to use the Playback room
