SME newsletter for families and the community
Dear Parents,
As we bid farewell to the past and step into the promise of a new year, I wanted to take a moment to extend my warmest wishes to you and your families. Happy New Year!
I hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits after a well-deserved break. The holiday season has brought joy and warmth to our hearts, and now, as we embark on the journey that is 2024, I am filled with excitement for all the possibilities it holds for our school community.
Our students continue to amaze us with their curiosity, creativity, and resilience. It is a pleasure to witness their growth and achievements each day. As partners in their education, we share in the pride of their accomplishments and look forward to supporting them in reaching new heights in the coming year.
Please know that our dedicated team of educators is committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for your children. We have exciting plans and initiatives lined up for the upcoming months, all geared towards fostering a love for learning and ensuring the holistic development of every student.
As we set our goals for the new year, let us also reflect on the values that bind us together as a community – a commitment to excellence, collaboration, and a shared belief in the potential of every child.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we can make 2024 a year of growth, achievement, and joy for our students.
Also, we would be remiss if we did not express our heartfelt sorrow concerning the automobile accident that happened in front of school property over the holidays. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those involved.
Warm regards,
Melissa Terry
Principal

Best of the Nest
Each month at Six Mile Elementary, we focus on different character traits and talk about ways to show those traits to others. We discuss the trait in morning meeting in our classrooms. We spotlight the trait on the school news show. Mrs. Orr, our guidance counselor, goes into classrooms and does special lessons with the trait. At the end of each month, we have a Best of the Nest party to honor those students who "shine" in that area.
This month, our word is Responsibility.
Responsibility is proving you can be trusted with what is expected of you
Absence Notes
If your student is absent, you have three days to send a note stating the reason for their absence before it is counted unexcused. You can send a handwritten note or you can email Stephanie Merck at stephaniemerck@pickens.k12.sc.us. You can also email your child's teacher.
When students have accumulated 3 absences in a row without a note, Mrs. Plyler will have to schedule a meeting for an Attendance Conference. Please make sure to get your note in so that this does not happen.
