CMIT Green School Mural
Most of us have seen the Green School-inspired mural in our front office. On our way to our offices or classrooms each day, we pass this mural. Our visitors have noted the CMIT Green School mural as an important example of public art and awareness. Only after three years do we develop clubs that speak about advocacy for the green environment and mental health.
In line with this effort, we invite students and CMIT parents who have talents in creating new murals to the cafeteria. Your talent can create awareness and become a medium of goodwill for most students.
Some students from the art class under Ms. Gotlieb's supervision and the CMIT art club under the supervision of Ms. Fermin have started producing murals for the SY 2023 cafeteria. Some students and their parents have also indicated their intention to paint a mural as an example of their legacy in our school.
AP Exam Order Finalization
The deadline for AP Exam Order Finalization is tomorrow, March 15, 2023.
All students who have the intention to take the test but have not registered, please see Dr. Clarke or your respective AP teachers.
A list of students taking the test during the first two weeks of May is available to view in Room 147 and with the students' respective AP teachers.
CMIT TUTORING
Please be informed that CMIT tutoring is available for all students who need help improving their grades, especially in math and English.
Given that we have limited supervision afterschool and teacher-advisors are the only ones who manage and maintain control over all accounts in their afterschool program, students who attend tutoring are expected to be on their best behavior.
Below is CMIT's tutoring schedule.

After School Tournament 2023
The CMIT Afterschool Chess Club is excited to announce its first tournament this school year on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, from 3 to 6 pm. We are inspired by the number of students looking forward to this exciting event.
The CMIT Chess Club is a social, educational, or competitive club where students gather to learn and play chess under the supervision of Mr. Kerm Djer and the collaboration of other teachers like Mr. Ishman Mirza and Mr. Nuri Bayram. The club provides various activities, such as instruction, rated games, simulations, seminars, and recreational play.
Chess training and practice help to enhance higher-order thinking skills such as problem-solving, decision-making, critical thinking, planning, and even creative thinking. It also significantly benefits overall cognitive ability and academic accomplishment, particularly in mathematics.
Please see or email Mr. Djer in Room 313 at kdjer@cmitacademy.org or Mr. Mirza in Room 221 at imirza@cmitacademy.org for registration and further details.
CMIT Literacy Magazine - Submit your Work
CMIT Literacy Magazine has started collecting student literary works and looks forward to publishing its digital and physical journals.
Literacy Magazine is typically looking for submissions of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, art, interviews with students, and book reviews.
If you require assistance with your literacy work, please contact Mr. Hommel, one of our English teachers, at shommel@cmitacademy.org.
The staff of Literacy Magazine works very hard to help students learn new skills, fill in gaps in their knowledge, and be inspired.
In order to ensure student success, one of our objectives is to foster "life-long" learners.
Mr. Tekin, our school's IT specialist, seeks a solid platform to combine all literacy digitally to make it a more enjoyable and engaging resource.
If you have art entries or submissions, you can also see Dr. Clarke or Ms. Fermin in room 147.
Literacy magazines' rich language, attractive artwork, and multi-genre texts are ideal for learning a wide range of skills, concepts, and themes—and, most importantly, for sharing the pure joy and wonder of words and art!
Your contributions to our publication are also an excellent way to boost your high school résumé.
For all submissions please access the form

Team Illusion SeaPerch Club
The Team Illusion SeaPerch Club submitted a wild card application for the International Competition that will happen in May.
This is to make sure to gain a spot in this Global competition and CMIT north will earn its spot in the field of Robotics around the world.
Robonation has confirmed the CMIT order for control systems and is preparing to send them to us. Until we have them in hand, CMIT students will concentrate on preparing the control systems that we have for reuse. To that end, we will use the remaining time to prepare our existing control systems to prepare vehicles for use in Annapolis on the 25th of March.
We only have two weeks until the trip to Annapolis Regional Competition, so make sure you have time to come into the lab in the afternoons to work.
This week, Wednesday's meeting will cover the control systems and motors. Students will start at 3:00 PM and conclude at 5:00 PM.

String Club
String Club has been working toward improving our skills and expanding upon our musical abilities. We have begun practicing for an end-of-the-year performance for everyone to enjoy! We've had the fortunate opportunity to play with new electric guitars, which were given to the club in support of our talents! New members have been working alongside us, and we're very glad to have each and every one of them. Students are having so much fun learning about new techniques to practice their instruments.
String Club is also preparing for a BIG end of the school year event concert!

Our Experience in Mathmagicians
Mathmagicians is a math club where we prepare and participate in math competitions and work through math puzzles with the guidance of Ms. Keskin. We go over a range of math from geometry, number theory, statistics and arithmetics. Mathmagicians is a helpful and enjoyable club for students who are interested in math since by being in the club it offers many learning opportunities, awards and a space to practice math without outside pressure. One of the many possible scholarships one can earn is from the UMD High School Math Competition which gives a full tuition if someone plans to enroll in UMD.
By being in Mathmagicians I have a better understanding in different ways math can be applied and benefit my life.

Grade 10
Ms. Keskin is a great teacher who taught Algebra 2 to me in my freshman year. She is a very kind and respectable teacher who I can count on to answer any questions that I have regarding math or anything outside of school. I am very grateful for the CMIT afterschool program for allowing me to attend after school clubs to develop my relationship with the school staff, whether I know them or not, and pick up skills that may be beneficial to me in the future. I would like to thank Dr. Clarke for monitoring CMIT after school programs and checking up on the students who attend these programs consistently. I would also like to thank her for assistance with club related activities and service hours opportunities. I would also like to thank Mrs. Ozturk for also overseeing the school’s afterschool programs creating a safe environment for us.

Marshmallow Launcher Project
In Foundations of Technology, the students have designed and constructed a Marshmallow Launcher. The only materials used were 15 popsicle sticks, glue, and 4 rubber bands.
The goal is to have the Marshmallow Launcher launch marshmallows from three different goal lines which range between 12 and 48 inches away from the goal. Each line had a point value of between one and three points.
Below is a video of Alexander Asade showcasing his Marshmallow Launcher which scored a total of 24 points in two minutes.
Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation was established in 2003. In 2005 the first of seven STEM focused schools was established. Today, Chesapeake Science Point Middle/High Charter School in Anne Arundel County, and the Chesapeake Math & IT Academy Public Charter Schools, Prince George's County, remain among Best Schools (US News). The 7th school, Chesapeake Science Point Elementary Public Charter School, is slated to open in Fall 2023.
