Tiger Tales
2022-2023
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
It is hard to believe the first month of school has come and gone and we are already heading into October. This means the arrival of cooler temperatures, the PTO Book Fair, and Halloween parties.
ECE-5th grade Halloween parties take place on Monday, October 31st with a parade beginning at 1:30pm and parties starting immediately after. Parents of AM ECE students will receive Halloween party information from the classroom teacher in a separate communique.
All parties must end by 2:30pm so we can clear out the bus parking lot for dismissal promptly at 2:55pm. Students should bring their costumes to school as they will be provided time to change into their costumes prior to the party. For the safety and well-being of every student, we ask that you select kid-friendly costumes, avoiding masks or weapons. Masks present a safety hazard as they limit visibility; and many students across all grade levels find masks frightening. Weapon replicas will not be allowed.
In addition to the District-approved Snack List, party treats are limited to peanut and tree nut free candies (Skittles, Starburst, Laffy Taffy, Tootsie Rolls, Twizzlers, Pixie sticks), fruits, veggies, and popcorn. All candy must be in the original package. Goodie bags that contain non-edible items are also allowed.
While all parents are invited to view the parade, only room parents may attend classroom parties. All volunteers must enter and exit the building through the main entrance and wear a visitor's pass at all times. In order to ensure a safe and orderly dismissal, we ask that room parents' children take their regular mode of transportation home on this very busy party day. Room parents are required to sign their student(s) out in the office if they choose to take their child(ren) home with them after the parties end. In addition, parent volunteers are encouraged to carpool, as parking is limited.
Please notify your child's classroom teacher if you would prefer he/she does not participate in the class party. An alternative activity will be provided those who do not participate.
It's a great day to be a Tiger!
Sandy Allen, Principal
COOLER TEMPERATURES HAVE ARRIVED
Amazingly enough, August and September have come to a close with students and staff venturing into October. Fall has definitely arrived and it will not be long before the temperatures begin to drop. Please remember to send your child(ren) with appropriate coats/jackets for recess and outdoor activities. As the winter months approach, keep in mind, students go outside for recess unless the temperature/wind chill is 10ºF or below.

PUBLIC ACT 102-0522
Public Act 102-0522, the Comprehensive Personal Health and Safety and Sexual Health Education Act, requires the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to adopt the National Sex Education Standards as the Illinois Learning Standards for sexual health education. These standards were adopted on June 14, 2022.
Districts have the option to provide sexual health education instruction during the 2022-2023 school year. Lake Villa Community Consolidated School District 41 will not implement National Sex Education Standards during this time. For parents that would like resources, please refer to the links below:

COVID PROTOCOLS
Students who are in isolation due to being COVID positive will be able to access support with schoolwork from staff outside of school hours. Families will receive information regarding how to access student support services when their isolation window begins. On-site learning will be a focus for this school year.
We recognize that students learn best when present within a physical classroom and strongly encourage students who are quarantined due to being COVID-19 positive to participate in remote support services that are available to them. Participation will be reflected within their daily attendance. We will no longer include online access to the general classroom experience (i.e., students will no longer be joining class remotely).
Present on-site learning is a focus for Lake Villa District 41 for the 2022-2023 school year. During the 2021-2022 school year, student chronic absenteeism drastically increased. Building principals will be encouraging student attendance on an ongoing basis and taking proactive measures to ensure that our students are learning on-site when not ill.
The Illinois State Board of Education defines an Excused Absence as follows: “Valid cause shall be illness, observance of a religious holiday, death in the immediate family, family emergency, student mental health day, and shall include such other situations beyond the control of the student as determined by the board of education in each district, or such other circumstances which cause reasonable concern to the parent for the mental, emotional, or physical health or safety of the student.”
We strongly encourage students who are quarantined due to being COVID-19 positive to participate in remote Student Support Services that are available to them. Participation will be reflected within their daily attendance.
Come join the Lake Villa District #41 team where you will LEARN, LEAD, SERVE alongside a dedicated group of staff members who put children FIRST!

School Lunch
Each day, students have 20 minutes to eat lunch. If your child is bringing a cold lunch from home, please be sure to pack (or have your child pack) a nutritious lunch. A hot lunch is also available for purchase ($3.05 per lunch). While lunch is a time for socialization, please remind your child(ren) of the importance of eating first. We want to make sure students are able to finish their lunch and return to the classroom ready to learn.
The federal waiver that provided free school lunches expired June 30th, 2022. As a result, the District will no longer provide all students with a free lunch. The cost for a school lunch is $3.05. Families may follow this link to apply for Free/Reduced Lunch if needed.
To help ensure the health and safety of all our students and staff, Arbor Management asks that parents please consider funding their student’s meal account online through MySchoolBucks. This will help minimize the amount of cash/check deposits that need to be handled throughout the day, which allows us to focus on serving meals as fast and efficiently as possible.
Create your free MySchoolBucks account to conveniently view your student’s cafeteria purchases, check their balance, and securely pay for [a la carte items or school meals] from anywhere.
Get Started Today:
- Go to myschoolbucks.com or download the mobile app
- Create your free account and add your students using their school name / student ID
- View cafeteria purchases and add funds using your credit / debit card or electronic check.
