Fully Staffed
I'm happy to say that as of this coming Monday, we will be fully staffed at BES. Kaitlyn Tarjan will be taking over as the 1st grade teacher to fill our last vacancy. We are beyond fortunate to get such a wonderful person to fill this role and we know that she is going to fit in perfectly at our campus.
We will be offering an opportunity for the parents of students in that class to get to meet her soon. More information will be going out to those families in the near future.
Attendance Letters
As we progress into the year, attendance will become a focus. There is a Compulsory Attendance Law in Texas that states that a student enrolled in a public school must be in attendance at least 90% of the school year. That means that a student can only miss 17 days in a school year in order to meet the state's requirement.
Attendance is monitored throughout the year, and at times, an Attendance Letter might be sent out to parents. This letter provides information on the number of absences to date and some information surrounding attendance. This letter is for informational purposes only. Should the absences continue to accrue after the letter, an in person meeting will be conducted with the parents to discuss a plan to improve attendance.
We understand that kids get sick and situations arise that prevent a student from attending school. In the event that this happens, please provide a letter to the school so that we may put this in their file. Unexcused absences are much more serious under the state's law than excused ones. From what I've experienced here, parents do a good job of sending in the proper documentation and it is much appreciated.
MAP Testing
We have been conducting MAP testing this week in various subjects and will finish up our testing next week. These tests are only used as screeners to look at areas of focus for student growth and are not taken as grades. The results of these screeners will be communicated with parents prior to the end of the 9 weeks grading period.
Pets on Campus
We ask that everyone please refrain from brining their pets on campus. While everyone believes that their pet is friendly, there is always the possibility that something could go wrong. We also have students that have had bad experiences with certain animals and this can cause them anxiety. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Football Game Reminders
Don't forget that all tickets are to be purchased online. The flyer below has the QR code to access buying tickets. There will also be QR codes at the gates if you have purchased your tickets ahead of time.
Also, as a reminder, students are not to be running around anywhere inside of the football stadium. Please ensure that your child(ren) know these rules.
