I hope you've had an AWESOME week! It's been a great week at the SWAMP! This week has been Teacher Appreciation Week. We are blessed with amazing teachers at Three Lakes Middle School. We are also thankful for our AMAZING PTA and many donations (treats) that were given to say, "Thank you!"

Next week will be busy with state testing. Please read below to check out the details.

May 11: STAAR Math (Grades 6-8)

May 12: STAAR Reading (Grades 6-8)

May 13 and 14 will serve as makeup testing days.

National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony: May 25 at 6:00 p.m.

Coach Sizemore will be hosting a parent meeting for all incoming 7th and 8th grade players Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Tyler Legacy High School Lecture Hall. Enter through the main entrance, walk towards the glass windows of the library and turn to the left...you won't miss it! Coach Sizemore will discuss the program, practice times, dual matches, tournaments, and summer programs.

Coach Petty will be offering tryouts for incoming 7th and 8th graders for next year’s swim team.

The tryouts are offered every Tuesday in the month of May at 4:30 p.m. at the Tyler ISD Aquatic Center pool.

Improving attendance at Three Lakes Middle School is a top priority this school year. There is a direct correlation between student attendance and school success, so encourage your students to attend school and discuss the importance of them being here daily.

Here are some helpful hints to help with attendance:

• Establish and stick to the basic routines (going to bed early, waking up on time, etc.) that will help your child develop the habit of on-time attendance.
• Talk to your child about why going to school every day is critical and important unless they are sick. If your child seems reluctant to go to school, find out why and work with the teacher, counselor, or administrator to get them excited about going to school.
• Come up with back up plans for who to turn to (another family member, a neighbor or fellow parents) to help you get your child to school if something comes up (e.g. another child gets sick, your car breaks down, etc.).
• Reach out for help if you are experiencing tough times (e.g. transportation, unstable housing, loss of a job, health problems) that make it difficult to get your child to school. Other parents, your child’s teacher, principal, social worker, school nurse, counselor, or community agencies can help you problem solve or connect you to a needed resource.
• If your child is absent, work with the teacher to make sure she or he has an opportunity to learn and make up for the academics missed.
