Our school wide focus for character education during SEL this month is Growth Mindset. Ms. Holcombe took the opportunity to use the topic for her class writing assignment. These second graders took the assignment to heart and I wanted to share with you what they learned. They captured the idea as well as I could.

Growth mindset can help you in school by telling yourself "I can do this" on a test. At home when you do a mistake, you can say, "mistake help me learn." At practice and your not doing that good say, "it's just practice it's fine." Another one for school, on a worksheet and you get something wrong you can say, "With more practice it will be easier." Also if your thinking I'm not as good at soccer then he is, don't say that say, "Everyone is talented in many ways."

A Growth mindset can help me in school with focused learning and lots more. It can also help me at home by listening to my parents and taking care of Charley. It can help me in sports by helping my self have confidence in me. It can help me in emotion like self control and keeping well balanced so if I'm mad at some one self control can help stay under control. And if I have a problem with someone I can get a teacher to help instead of using mean words, hands, or telling one of there friends to stay away from them cuse of what they said. Having a Growth Mindset is very important. It can hep your self control increase and achieve new goals every day. Think of growth mindset as your best friend there all ways there for you and so is growth mindset even when you feel like not using it you should cuse it is your best friend and you all ways want a friend. I know I would especially if it was a best friend. Growth mindset can help you in many ways. And that is all I have to say about growth mindset.

Over winter break, we sent a letter to all of our current families asking them to complete an Intent to Return survey. If you have not yet completed it, we ask that you do so.

This is not a commitment, but it will help us better plan for next year knowing how many seats we can offer to incoming students. Our application lottery is currently open so if you know anyone interested in attending FAST next year, please let them know that they can find the admission application on our website.

ALL siblings who do not currently attend FAST this year but would like to attend FAST next year MUST apply for the lottery. Siblings are not guaranteed a spot at FAST and must enter the lottery in the event that we have more siblings than available seats. We will attempt to ensure that all families with a sibling who will enter FAST next year follow the process correctly, but it is up to the parents to enter their child in the lottery. Currently enrolled students DO NOT need to enter the lottery.

Are you looking for something for your student to do after school? FAST offers several enrichment clubs for every grade and interest. There's chess, dance, film and more to choose from. Enrollment is open now for second semester enrichment clubs. Details are posted on the FAST website.

Students who are interested in joining the FAST Cheer Team are invited to try outs with Ms. Beverly (aka Coach Key). Tryouts are coming up over the next couple of weeks.

Tours for prospective FAST families have begun! If you know of anyone considering applying or who might be interested, please let them know they can schedule a tour today from our website. Applications for the 2023-24 school year open on January 1.

January 19, 2023 at 9am marks our first Parent U of 2023. Join Ms. Miller and Mr. Moore in the Innovation Hall at FAST where they will be discussing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and how it impacts our SEL curriculum.

On Christmas Eve, one of our FAST families lost almost everything in an apartment fire, luckily no one was injured. The son is in second grade at FAST. They are in need of support. Please view this list that a fellow FAST parent helped them create. The family is in temporary housing until they can find another home. As you can see from the list below- they need any help you or people you know can provide including a belated Christmas for their children.

Families are welcome to drop donations at 11025 Crabapple Lake Drive, Roswell (in Crabapple Lake subdivision, less then 4 minutes from the school). This family has offered to drive the donations to the family in need.

Did your student have a winter break growth spurt?? We are opening the Spirit Wear Shop for a short sale so ACT FAST!

The FAST library is run by parent volunteers. It is a joy to help put books into the hands of the students. Their joy is contagious! The library is open Tuesdays 12:00pm-3:00pm, Thursdays 11:00am-3:00pm, and Fridays 10:00am-12:30pm (times subject to change). If you are interested in volunteering please email library@fastk8.org for more information.

*Volunteers are needed to shelve books, add side call numbers to new books, organize shelves as needed, and to help children find the perfect book when they are visiting the library!
