Staff Spotlight!
We are excited to introduce our new technology support staff member, Ms. Arreola! Kolmar is so lucky to be adding such a warm, knowledgeable person to our staff! We share Ms. Arreola with Hometown and Hannum, but she is here at Kolmar 4 out of 5 days a week. She not only provides tech support to the students and their families, but to the staff members as well! She is so quick to help and always is going above and beyond to either solve the problem, or help us understand what/why something is happening! We can't wait to see all the great things she will do in our district!

D123 Thought Exchange
How has D123 formed meaningful learning partnerships with parents, families, and the broader learning community? School District 123 values the learning partnerships that are formed between our families, students and staff. Each year District 123 strives to ensure that all members of the learning community are able to connect with classrooms, and the school system in valuable and meaningful ways.
District 123 has intentionally created opportunities for connection including:
- Meet & Greet Opportunities
- School Open Houses
- Family Conferences (In-Person, Virtual, and Telephone)
- Remind, Seesaw, and Email Communication Tools
- Individual Classroom Curricular Newsletters
- Principal Tuesday Take Home Communication
Halloween
Halloween is almost here and that means so are our classroom parties. As a reminder, costumes need to be appropriate for school. Toy weapons, violent props, and overly scary masks are not allowed at school. Please remember that children should not bring edible treats with them to distribute to their friend and classmates.
Notes from the Music Room
Your child will experience music in a variety of ways at District 123. Each student in grades K-5 attends music class once per week for 40 minutes. During this time there will be opportunities to sing, dance, move to music, and play instruments. Students will also improvise on melodies and accompaniments, read, notate and compose music. Through these activities, students will learn music vocabulary to enable them to describe music, find links between music and other disciplines, and evaluate musical performances.
4th and 5th graders have been invited to join chorus and for those who signed up, chorus practices have started at all 5 grammar schools! The chorus will perform for concerts throughout the year including a grade K-2 winter concert and a grade 3-5 spring concert! You can find dates and times for these performances in the district calendar.
Did you know that participating in music can:
Be a stress reliever.
Build teamwork.
Increase attention span.
Improve time management skills.
Improve fine motor skills.
Build self confidence.
Improve reading comprehension.
Improve social skills.
Help reduce blood pressure.
Improve math scores.
Increase brain activity.
Strengthen immune system.
Mr. Curtis, Mrs. Glikis and Mrs. Hemminger all look forward to a wonderful year of making music with your children!
Library Newsletter
Kindergarten: In library class, students will learn about being a good digital citizen by learning when and why to take breaks from device time and consider the feelings of people around them, even when engaged in fun online activities. Book check out is EVERY WEEK. Please remind students that the best place to keep library books, when they are not reading them, is in their backpack!
1st Grade: In library class, students will understand the importance of being safe, responsible, and respectful online through our digital citizenship curriculum. Book check out is EVERY WEEK. 2nd Grade In library class, students will learn about how technology use isn't always a distraction, but there are definitely times when it's best to keep devices away. We will help students learn when it's appropriate to use technology and when it's not -- and practice making family rules for device-free time at home. Book check out is EVERY OTHER WEEK. Please remind students that the best place to keep library books, when they are not reading them, is in their backpack!
3rd Grade: In library class, students will learn that stronger, more secure online passwords are a good idea for everyone. But how can we help kids create better passwords and actually remember them? Please remind students that the best place to keep library books, when they are not reading them, is in their backpack!
4th Grade: In library class 4th grade we will discuss with students how it is in our students' nature to share and connect with others. But sharing online comes with some risks. How can we help kids build strong, positive, and safe relationships online? We will help our students learn the difference between what's personal and what's best left private. Book check out is EVERY OTHER WEEK. Please remind students that the best place to keep library books, when they are not reading them, is in their backpack!
5th Grade: In library class, 5th grade students will learn that the internet is full of catchy headlines and outrageous images, all to make us curious and get our attention. But kids don't usually realize: What you click on isn't always what you get. We will show our students the best ways to avoid clickbait online. Book check out is EVERY OTHER WEEK. Please remind students that the best place to keep library books, when they are not reading them, is in their backpack!
