Earn College Credits While in High School
Culver City High School will be offering some West Los Angeles College on our campus this Spring. Learn about these courses and how to enroll in them in this newsletter.
What are the requirements for admission to community college classes while in high school?
- Be at least 13 years of age
- Completed the 8th grade
- Must have approval from parent/guardian, school counselor, and principal (for summer classes)
Why enroll in college classes while in high school?
- Take courses not offered in high school
- Take challenging advanced courses
- Experience personal growth in decision-making and responsibility while developing their future educational plans
- Save on free college tuition
- Experience the diversity of college, in the characteristics, ideas and abilities of fellow students and instructors
- Enter university with advance standing
Attention Seniors!!!
Seniors who are satisfying their high school graduation credits can enroll in only four high school classes if they are also enrolled in a community college course. Imagine that - you can have a reduced schedule at CCHS and earn college credits!

Enrolling at WLA College is a 3-step process.
1. Obtain WLAC Student College ID #
2. Submit K-12 electronic form for parent and counselor permission to take college course
3. Enroll in specific course
Step 1 - If you do not have a College ID# with West LA College and want to take Spring courses on the CCHS campus, please apply for your College ID #.
Step 2- WLAC/CCHS K12 Dynamic Form - Please fill out the dynamic form with the class abbreviation and number. - Electronic form to obtain parent and counselor approval.
Step 3 - You will be able to add the class.
West Los Angeles College Dual Enrollment classes - Spring 2023
Course: ANTHRO 130 - Introduction to Queer Studies
Dates: 2/6/23-6/5/23
This is an online class, and completed asynchronously which means there are no live sessions.
Course Description: ANTHRO 130 Introduction to Queer Studies - 3 Units CSU Transferable. This introductory course examines a broad range of contemporary gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer issues in various contexts including bio-medical, sociological, political, racial and sexual.
Course: MGMT 013 - Small Business Entrepreneurship

This is an online class, and completed asynchronously which means there are no live sessions.
Course Description: MGMT 013 Small Business Entrepreneurship - 3 Units CSU Transferable. This course discusses the challenges of entrepreneurship and provides the tools to enhance success. The course provides a detailed treatment of strategic planning for small businesses, an in-depth coverage of creating and managing the business, new sources of small business funding, effective decision making, and hands-on experience for creating a business.
Course: Child Development 001 - Child Growth and Development
Dates: 2/6/23-6/5/23
Days Class Meets: Tuesdays & Thursdays at CCHS
Time: 3:45pm-5:35pm
Course Description: CH DEV 001 Child Growth and Development - 3 Units UC/CSU Transferable: Required for Teaching Permit. This course examines the major developmental milestones for children, both typical and atypical, from conception through adolescence in the areas of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive. The course will emphasize interactions between maturational process and environmental factors. While studying developmental theory and investigating research methodologies, students will observe children, evaluate individual differences, and analyze characteristics of development at various stages.
Course: Child Development 002 - Early Childhood: Principles and Practices
Dates: 2/6/23-6/5/23
Days Class Meets: Tuesdays & Thursdays at CCHS
Time: 3:45pm-5:35pm
Course Description: 3 units CSU Transferable Requirement: Verification of an annual tuberculosis test. Required for Teaching Permit. Includes fingerprint clearance through the California Department of Justice (DOJ) This course provides a demonstration of developmentally appropriate early childhood teaching competencies under guided supervision. Students will utilize practical classroom experiences to make connections between theory and practice, develop professional behaviors, and build a comprehensive understanding of children and families. Child centered, play-oriented approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment; and knowledge of curriculum content areas will be emphasized as student teachers design, implement and evaluate experiences that promote positive development and learning for all young children.
Course: American Sign Language 001
Dates: 2/6/23-6/5/23
This is an online class, and completed asynchronously which means there are no live sessions. Completing American Sign Language fulfills the language requirement for high school graduation and some colleges accept it as a language when applying to their institution.
Course Description: A S L 001 American Sign Language - 4 Units UC/CSU Transferable: Develops basic vocabulary and grammar of American Sign Language. Emphasis is placed on receptive and comprehension skills. Incorporates vital aspects of the Deaf culture and community.
Course: American Sign Language 002
Dates: 2/6/23-6/5/23
This class may be offered in person or asynchronously depending upon the availability of students. Completing American Sign Language 002 fulfills the second year of a language requirement for high school graduation and some colleges accept it as a language when applying to their institution.
Course Description: A S L 002 American Sign Language - 4 Units UC/CSU Prerequisite: A S L 001 with a grade of āCā or better. Completes the study of elementary vocabulary and grammar. Increased development of inflectional and non-manual behavior patterns. There will also be extensive study on the Deaf Culture and Community within receptive and expressive conversation.
Once you fill out the interest form, please apply for you West Los Angeles College student ID if you do not have one. Please refer to the instructions above.
Important Information Regarding Transfer Credits
UC Transferable - The course and credits earned for this class transfers to University of California schools.
CSU Transferable - The course and credits earned for this class transfers to California State Universities.
