Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
Last Friday’s Pack the Gym and Saturday’s Winter Semi-Formal were an amazing end to Winter Spirit Week. Congratulations to the Marketing and Leadership programs for putting on great experiences for CHS students. Thank you to the community for all of the support and engagement this past week and always.
We also had the opportunity to honor Instructional Assistant Evan Berry with the January CARE Award. Mr. Berry works with our Career and Technical Education Programs, most often in Construction, to ensure that students are safe and engaged. He excels at building relationships with students and helping them develop skills that will serve them well when they graduate from CHS.
The Bond work is coming right along, and the steel is in place. It is great to see the new wing take shape right in front of our eyes. Please check out the pictures below of this amazing work in progress. We are so grateful to the Canby community for passing the bond so we can look forward to our new facilities.
We are approaching the midterm of the 2nd trimester. This means that there is no school on Monday, January 30 as CHS teachers will be in professional development and grading. We are pleased to offer options for both in person conferences (drop in) and Zoom conferences (by appointment). Check out important conference information below. We are looking forward to connecting with parents at Conferences.
Have a wonderful week!
Best,
Cari Sloan

Forecasting Information:
Forecasting for students is the second week of February. This is the process where we build next year’s schedule based on student needs and requests. It is important for families to work with their students on their course choices. The more accurate the information, the more likely students will get the class choices they request. The schedule will also be more balanced and serve our students’ needs more fully. This process is essential, and we look forward to partnering with students, staff, and families in order to build the best schedule for next year. Please watch for more information to come.
State Testing Dates for 11th graders:
ELPA=Jan 31-Feb 3

Attendance at CHS
To ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our attendance process, please remember the following guidelines:
If your student needs to leave class for an appointment or because they are sick, inform the attendance office 30 MINUTES PRIOR to leave time. This will help us ensure that your student receives a note to leave class in a timely manner. Students will not be excused without a note.
Pre-Excused Absence: For any anticipated absence that will be more than three days, students are expected to pick up a Pre-Excused Absence Form from Jessie Munoz at the Attendance Office.
To report an absence, call Jessie Munoz at our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.
Students have 48 hours to have unexcused absences excused. Students may lose the opportunity to make up work for credit due to unexcused absences. Please report an absence as soon as possible.
Remember that attendance matters and students who attend class regularly are more likely to stay on track, graduate on time, learn deeply, and get the most from their high school experience.
