Principally speaking
Our first week back was filled with smiles, laughing, and positive energy. All classes welcomed each child with get to know you activities, drawings, and building a strong classroom community. Routines and classroom expectations are being established this week to ensure a strong year of learning.
Tuesday afternoon, we held an ALL school assembly together. We welcomed our students, reviewed schoolwide expectations across all settings showing how we all are respectful, responsible, and safe. The kids did a concentration activity, we are focusing on developing sustained attention during the month of August. We also introduced our Lincoln song, sung To the tune of Yankee Doodle, the lyrics are below.
Lincoln Leopards are respectful
Kind is the leopard way
Leopards are responsible
We work hard every day
Leopards make safe choices
Hands and feet to self
Take care of each other
We get along so well
ROAR!
This upcoming week Tuesday we will begin our fall baseline assessment of iReady, all students in grades 1-5 will take the reading assessment on Tuesday and the math assessment will begin on Thursday. There is an informational letter below. I look forward to a great year.

Hi 3rd and 4th Grade Families,
We will be starting orchestra lessons very soon at Lincoln. To make sure we can adequately prepare before lessons begin, the deadline for orchestra sign ups is Monday 8/21. If your child would like to be in orchestra, sign them up asap!
Here are the basics:
- Students choose to play either the violin, viola, cello or bass
- During the school year, orchestra meets two times a week: one 40 minutes small group lesson during the school day and one 45 minute full group before school rehearsal.
- During the school day lessons will be on Mondays starting August 28th. Mrs. Mezera will be the lesson teacher.
- Before school rehearsals will be Thursdays from 7:15-8:00am at Lincoln. First before school rehearsal will be September 28. Mrs. Borkowski will be running the rehearsals.
Steps for enrollment:
1. Fill out the online form: D303 Elementary Orchestra Enrollment Form
2. Reserve a rental instrument from either Austin's Violin Shop or Quinlan and Fabish. Violin, viola and cello should order a 1/4 size (12" if ordering a viola from Austin's), bass players should order an 1/8 size. When ordering make sure to include the Essential Elements Book 1 and a folding music stand with your order. Have the instrument delivered to Lincoln- your child will receive their instrument, book and folding music stand during their first orchestra lesson with us!
*If a student can not financially afford to rent an instrument, please contact us. There are options available.
3. Purchase a 1 inch 3 ring binder, pencil pouch, and 3-4 sharpened pencils. These will be part of the orchestra supplies.
4. Pay the $50 activity fee on Pushcoin
Any questions? Visit our website D303 Elementary Orchestra Website or contact me, Mrs. Mezera (elisabeth.mezera@d303.org) and Mrs. Borkowski (rita.borkowski@d303.org)
Looking forward to a great year in orchestra!

Kindergarten Health information
Below is a letter from Wendy Landers our Certified School Nurse, reminding all kindergarten families of the records that need to be turned into school prior to the first day of school. You can bring these to Backpack Night on Thursday, 8/10 from 4-6PM, or the office any week day between 8:00am and 3:00pm. This is important to ensure your child is not excluded from school.
A Nursing Note from Miss Christy:
Welcome back Lincoln Leopards! This is a friendly reminder to turn in all required medical forms to the front office or mail them directly to the school (211 South 6th Avenue). Forms can also be emailed to christy.mathern@d303.org.
K: physical examination, immunizations, dental exam and vision exam
2: Dental exam
During this transition back to school, please remember that your child should be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication. Your child must not vomit or have diarrhea for 24 hours without the use of medication. It is important that if your child is ill that they stay home. Some of our Leopards are lacking a healthy immune system and are susceptible to serious illness.
As your school nurse, I am happy to collaborate in treating asthma and implementing an asthma action plan. This also applies if your child tends to wheeze when they get ill and require albuterol. Here are the links to the asthma history form, medication consent, and asthma action plan. A healthy child is a child capable of learning!
I look forward to getting to know your child! I have more than 20 years of inpatient pediatric experience, so your child is in good hands! If you have any changes to your child’s medical or medication history please contact me with this update! I am available if you have any questions or concerns! I also have a variety of resources available.
Thank you for your time!!
