You may have noticed the new title of the WHS Newsletter, THE BOOMER. We are excited about this change! Not only does the name reflect the intention of the WHS Newsletter to sound off loud and proud about all the great things happening at Weatherford High School, THE BOOMER is significant in a Kangaroo's life. A group of kangaroos is called a mob (you know, Mighty Mob!), and the dominant male kangaroo in the mob is called the BOOMER! We hope you'll like this new name, as we sound off with future weekly volumes booming with Roo Pride about WHS, a school rich in traditions, old and new.

Klement Distribution, a partner of WISD, surprised Thomas Wise with an induction into the Straight A Hall of Fame. Wise was presented the award by Mr. Phillip Rodriguez of Klement Distribution and congratulated by Mrs. Dowd, the WHS Principal.

Current featured articles are "Theater Department Unites to Build New Show" by Jade Hebbert, and "Flooding, Recovering, and Rising" by Staff Writer Jessica White.

Enjoy dinner with the family and view images of our WHS students from their Creative Shoot with Studio- 73 in the museum on February 2nd. Please don't forget to donate to your favorite image, all proceeds benefit the WHS UIL Cheerleaders. As always, we are so thankful for your support.

The Weatherford FFA Tractor Mechanics team placed 6th at the Gonzales Invitational. Andy Wiley was 10th overall.

Communities in Schools is raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society exists to find cures and ensure access to treatments for patients with blood cancers. Please donate online under Weatherford High School or bring your spare change into the CIS classroom (G219). We are looking forward to showing the community how much Weatherford High School cares about raising awareness!

The counselors are currently meeting with students and assisting with the completion of 4-year plans, including course requests for next year.

Current Juniors began making course selections last week during their English classes and should have requests “Submitted” by Friday, Jan. 20th.

Current Sophomores will begin course selections on Tuesday, Jan. 17th during their Social Studies classes and will need to have requests “Submitted” by Friday, Jan. 27th.

Attention Seniors – Scholarship season is here! Did you know that last year’s senior class was awarded over $3.5 million dollars in scholarships? Let’s make this year the best year ever for scholarship awards. Many scholarships have deadlines coming up right away. Scholarships are available for all students who have a desire to attend college. Go to the Counseling Office often to get the latest information on scholarships and pick up applications.

The Weatherford College Foundation has opened its online scholarship application for the 2017-18 academic year, utilizing a new platform designed to simplify the process for students and donors alike.

Students will begin at www.wc.edu/scholarships, using their existing “MyWC” login credentials to enter the system. Students must have completed the overall WC application to apply for scholarships.

The deadline to apply is March 24th, 2017. The scholarships will begin in the fall 2017 semester, and many awards will renew for spring 2018, pending fall GPAs.
