Hi Castle Rock!

Welcome to September! It's hard to believe, but another month has passed. We are enjoying settling into our new routine and sincerely hope you are finding a rhythm as well with distance learning.

If you are still struggling with navigating our technology, please contact our office to participate in a live, two hour session with one of our district technology coaches. Translation is available. As always, you may also email wvhelp@wvusd.org for help.

No cooking this Thursday! Our Castle Rock Community Club is sponsoring a "dine out" event with a portion of the proceeds going to our students. Please visit Round Table pizza at 1139 Grand Avenue this Thursday (delivery or take out only), mention you are supporting Castle Rock, and 25% of your bill will be donated back to our school. We thank you in advance for your participation!

Please remember this Friday, September 4 is a modified day with distance learning concluding at 11:30 for TK and K, and 12:30 for grades 1 through 5. There will be no student support or tutorials in the afternoon. Also, there is no school on Monday, September 7 in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Starting Monday, August 31st we will be offering breakfast and lunch at the curbside meal pick-up for ALL students at ANY site’s designated time. Each meal can be purchased separately. Meals may be picked up by a parent/guardian. Students do NOT need to be present. Student ID or ID number is required.

MEAL SERVING TIMES: 11:30 - 1:10 pm

During the coming weeks, you may be contacted by your child's teacher to pick up additional supplies and materials for learning at home. Before coming to our school, please take the time to complete a health assessment by answering the following three questions:

1. Are you experiencing any symptoms such as current or recent fever (100.4° or higher), chills, cough, shortness of breath or respiratory illness, sudden lack of taste or smell, or sudden onset of unexplained gastrointestinal illness?

2. Have you been in close contact** with any person who has been infected with COVID-19 within the last 14 day?

3. Have you or anyone living with you been out of the country within the last 14 days?

**CLOSE CONTACT is defined as: Being within approximately 6 feet of a COVID-19 case for 10 minutes or more; close contact can occur when having direct contact with infectious secretions of a COVID-19 case (being coughed on).

If you answered YES to any of the above questions, please DO NOT participate in the item pick up. We will make alternate arrangements to get necessary materials to you. We thank you for your understanding and support as we continue to work to keep everyone safe and healthy!

Some of our students are having trouble staying focused during online lessons. Hand held video games, extra open tabs, and online gaming on extra devices are all distractions students may be struggling with. The article above can provide some valuable suggestions to help keep your child focused, as can gentle supervision to ensure students are not distracted during their lessons. As always, if we can help, please reach out to your child's teacher.
