The Mustang Minute
Week of February 21st
FROM THE PRINCIPALS' OFFICES
It was a busy week once again at our Brookwood schools! We celebrated School Bus Driver Appreciation Week and a Week of Kindness at both schools. We held a school-wide spelling bee and had our season openers for boys and girls volleyball at BMS. And, we continued on with our efforts to raise funds for the Kids Heart Challenge at BES!
Teachers in both schools are also busy preparing for spring conferences, which are right around the corner on Thursday, March 3rd. Please read on for more important details regarding teacher and parent requested conferences.
Lastly, as a reminder, there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 21st. We hope you enjoy this extra time together as a family!
Have a great weekend, Mustangs!
Mr. Braden and Mrs. Franz

Spring Parent Teacher Conferences
It is spring conference time!!! Brookwood spring conferences are scheduled upon the request of the teacher or the parent. Conference slips were sent home with your elementary school child. Notifications for teacher requested conferences were mailed to middle school families last Wednesday.
BES Parents: Please fill out the forms sent home with your child and have them return them to their teacher by Wednesday, February 23rd. You will then receive additional correspondence from your child's teacher with your scheduled conference time.
BMS Parents: If you are in receipt of a teacher conference request letter, and you wish to cancel or alter the scheduled conference time, you can do so by calling the middle school office. If you are a BMS family that has not received a teacher request for a conference, but you wish to schedule one, please simply contact the main office at (262) 279-1053.
Looking forward to continuing our work together in support of our students!
Bus Driver Appreciation Week
BMS Screen Door Productions Now Presents Willy Wonka Jr.
This 4-8th grade all school musical is a lot of fun. The theater group allows for new friends, growth in language skills, learning in teamwork, theatrical skills and is an important community event. We have missed our productions these last two years and are elated to make this comeback!
Auditions are this coming Wednesday, February 23rd from 2:50pm to 4:25pm. There is a sign up sheet on the wall near the chorus room. Students may leave after their audition, but may NOT use the Academic Lab to wait for a ride, unless they are already staying and have their academic plan sheet prepared, and their teacher knows they are working on homework until 4:30pm.
Mrs. Kanthack held an informational meeting this past Wednesday and had many students attend...hooray! If your child missed this meeting and is interested, be sure to fill out the survey that was emailed to them, and have them talk to or email Mrs. Kanthack at maryellen.kanthack@gcj2.k12.wi.us and she will send you the parent letter with detailed information. All information from that point goes through the Willy Wonka Jr. Google Classroom. If you are a parent, be sure to join so that we have smooth communication in the coming months.
BMS Screen Door Productions is an amazing opportunity to grow into greatness!
BES Kids Heart Challenge Update
A few reminders for the Kids Heart Challenge:
~All fundraising is online this year and will be due by 11:59pm on Monday, Feb. 21st.
~The Pie A Teacher event will be held in late March, times TBD.
So far our kiddos are rocking it! They have been learning about ways to keep their own hearts healthy while fundraising to help others.
Our Kids Heart Challenge Road Trip is wrapping up! The last day to register or fundraise is Monday February 21st. So far we have reached 2 of our 3 goals. We have already fundraised $18,900, which is more than $1,000 over our goal and our best year yet! We have received donations from 24 different states. Another goal was to have 30 students complete Finn's Mission and we have had 34! Way to go heart heroes! We still need 27 students to register, which is FREE to do, to meet our goal of 150 registered students. Do you think we can make it?

From the Classroom...
What's Happening in our BMS ELA Classes?
Pictured below are our top three finishers: Declan Hess (3rd place, 8th grade), Ivan Morales-Vazquez (2nd place, 8th grade), and Meric Blazina (1st place, 7th grade). Our "championship word" (i.e. the last word of the competition) was "acutely," which Meric spelled with ease.
Meric will now move on to represent Brookwood in the Wisconsin Regional Spelling Bee, hosted by Cesa 2, next week Tuesday, February 22nd. Good luck, Meric! We are sure you will make our Mustang family proud!
What's Happening in Mrs. Brenek's Class?
From the Athletic Director's Desk
We had an exciting first volleyball match at home on Thursday! Congratulations to the boys A team for beating Randall! Thanks for coming out to support your Mustangs! Our next home match is Wednesday, February 23rd.
Cheerleaders - please return your clean uniforms, warmups, and poms to Coach Cottrell.
Basketball players - please return your clean uniforms to Coach Metcalf.
We’re looking forward to another great session of Saturday Morning Basketball!
Go Mustangs!
