January 9, 2020 - Special Meeting

The Wenatchee School Board will now provide a "Board Meeting Summary Briefing" after each Board meeting. The summary includes a short description of the main topics and action items. These summaries are not meant to replace minutes. The minutes for each meeting are approved and posted after the next regularly scheduled meeting. We hope these summaries provide some basic information and context around the reports, presentations and action items.

Board Candidate Interviews

Attendance: Laura Jaecks, Martin Barron, and Dr. Michele Sandberg


The Wenatchee School District Board of Directors received 14 applications for two vacant board positions. Seven applicants were selected to interview for the two seats. Each interviewee was allotted 20 minutes. The board asked the same set of questions for each candidate. Questions were provided to candidates in advance.

Executive Session

The board entered into executive session to review and discuss candidate qualification.


Open Session Watch

The Board reconvened and entered back into open session and motioned to appoint by roll call vote, Julie Norton (3-0) and Maria Iñiguez (2-1) to the two vacant board positions.



ADJOURNMENT


Update to January 9th Meeting

Due to the highly unusual circumstances of appointing two board members at one time and upon further review of the board’s policy and in consultation with district legal counsel, it was determined that there needed to be at least three yes votes for a candidate to be appointed.


Candidate Maria Iñiguez received a 2-1 vote during the board’s January 9th special meeting. Only three board members were seated on the five-person board at the time. The board will hold an executive session on January 14th review and discuss the qualifications of the remaining six board candidates, including Iñiguez. Read more
