Seasons Greetings,
Experiencing the holiday spirit is a special time of year for many people around the world. It offers a chance to celebrate, connect with loved ones, and reflect on the year that has passed. Decorations, parties, delicacies, gifts, and time with friends and family characterize the holiday season. Beyond these external attributes, it is a significant season that brings about joy, love, hope, and giving. However, the holidays also hold a more profound significance, as they provide an opportunity to take a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life and focus on what truly matters.
One of the primary reasons the holidays are so important is that they give us a chance to spend time with our loved ones. Whether through gift-giving, holiday dinners, or simply spending time together, the holidays provide an opportunity to strengthen our relationships and create lasting memories. This is particularly crucial for those who might not get the chance to visit their loved ones as frequently as they would want because of hectic schedules or distance.
The holidays can also provide a welcome respite from the pressures of daily life. It’s simple to get sucked into the daily commotion, whether brought on by job demands, school, or other obligations. The holidays provide us an opportunity to stop, take a deep breath, and then resume our activities. Everyone here at Rogers Park wishes you all a Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year. May you take time with your families over this break to rest, rejuvenate, and enjoy your loved ones. We will see you all back at school on January 8, 2024.

Reading for Life – New Ways to Help Young Readers
ASD has a new reading curriculum for K-3 students and new plans to help students learn to read. Also, the State of Alaska has some additional requirements as part of the Alaska Reads Act.
Find out what it all means for your K-3 child by checking out this short video series.
The videos explain how it will impact your child in the classroom and what you can do at home.
Do you need help coming up with ways you can help at home? Sign up for a weekly K-3 reading activity text message. Each week, we’ll send one text message with an activity idea or tip you can practice at home with your child to help support their reading. To opt-in for weekly activities text “@asdreading” to the number 81010. (Message and data rates may apply, depending on your cellular plan.)

Children's Lunchbox is Coming to Rogers Park
Feeding Hungry Families through the pantry pack program
It began as an urgent need when schools closed as a result of COVID-19, but even now The Children’s Lunchbox is distributing or partnering with other agencies to distribute pantry boxes to food-insecure children and families. Families who are making difficult decisions between paying bills and purchasing groceries, families awaiting SNAP benefits, families who are uncertain of where their next meal will come from.
Each pantry box provides a breakfast, lunch or dinner meal for a family of four and will be available to students twice a month, here at school. Bags will be delivered to teachers and given to students on distribution days. If your family is interested in receiving this service, please contact Nurse T @ 907-742-4800 to enroll. We have the opportunity to increase the frequency of deliveries, up to a weekly basis, if there is enough interest. We are very excited to be able to provide this service to our community!
BUS SAFETY
It is a team effort in ensuring bus safety. Please remind your child to stay seated, use an indoor voice, and keep their hands to themselves. Riding the bus to and from school is a privilege. Please help support bus safety by talking with your children at home about bus safety expectations.
