Better Together this Thursday
Thursday's topic is coping with information overload. Join us in this continuing series with teacher librarians across Iowa. We start at 3:45.
IASL Intellectual Freedom Webinar January 11
The Iowa Library Association, Iowa Association of School Librarians, and the State Library invite you to a special joint session promoting intellectual freedom and supporting Iowa librarians in their efforts to provide library materials to their community. We will promote a jointly-published resource list, discuss how good policies and procedures can see you and your staff through challenges, and have time to address specific questions from the audience.
The Zoom session is January 11, 6:30-8:00. Sign up at this Google form. The Zoom link will be provided after you register. A recording of the webinar plus handouts will be available to registrants.
If you have questions about this upcoming professional learning opportunity, please reach out to IASL members Michelle Kruse (IASL President) and Dianna Geers (IASL AASL Delegate) at iaslwebpage@gmail.com.

New Pebble Go Articles
The Capstone editorial board has just released 56 new articles in PebbleGo.
An important area of focus has been to broaden and expand the representation of people of color. There are 38 new biographies, including actors and entertainers, businesspeople, history makers, politicians and the first Indigenous business person, Bethany Yellowtail. Readers will also learn about people like Mahalia Jackson, Kawhi Leonard, Genesis Butler, Farouk el-Baz, Tyler Perry, Michaela dePrince, and Katie Bouman, the woman whose research was key to capturing the first image of a black hole.
The new 17 new Social Studies articles focus on laying a foundation for crucial discussions, where students can read and learn about things like Ability Diversity, Family Traditions, Striking and Picketing, and Human Rights. There are also articles on some ways kids have made a difference in articles about the Global Climate Strike led by Greta Thunberg; the Malala Fund, set up by Malala Yousafzai; and #1000blackgirlbooks. The latter is a campaign spearheaded by the amazing Marley Dias aimed at creating a database of books featuring Black girls as the main characters. Check out the 1000 Black Girl Books database itself here if you’re looking for some winter reading.
