The Llewellyn Friday Flyer
October 6, 2023
Dear Families,
What an amazing day for Run Llewellyn! It was a blast to see so many supporters come out to cheer on our runners. I am so proud of our students who ran their hearts out for our school. Thank you so much to all the volunteers who counted laps, tallied cards, and organized popsicles for all our students! An extra special thank you goes to Carleen Starr (and Ms. B) for the organization of this event. We appreciate all the time and effort you put into making this event efficient, special, and one for the memory books!
Bike Families! Lately we have seen an increase in the number of staff, students (and families) biking to and from school. It has been hard to find an open spot. To help solve this problem, I am working with a parent, PBOT and PPS to install additional racks in front of the school. We hope to have them in the next couple months!
Thank you for your readership! Please share any questions or feedback about this newsletter or school in general through email at pgwynn@pps.net.
Have a great weekend!

From our Counselors
Dear Families,
So far, the 2023.24 school year has been off to a busy but great start! We can’t believe that we are already in the beginning of October. We apologize for our delay in getting our welcome information out to you all. First, we wanted to take a moment and introduce our mental health and counseling team. Ms. Brittany is returning as the full-time School Counselor. Brittany’s primary roles will be classroom lessons for all grade levels, small group facilitation, individual check-ins, 504 case manager along with many other tasks.
Please help me in welcoming Cassie Capone, who is our mental health therapist. Her primary roles will be small groups focused on social/emotional and mental health, individual check-ins and resources around community support for families and students. We have sent home a community needs assessment for families to help guide our classroom lesson topics, prioritize our small groups as well as letting us know additional ways we can help support you students and family.
Please visit our School Counseling & Mental Health Website for the following information which will be updated continuously throughout the year:
Your counseling and Mental Health Team
Upcoming Small Groups:
Class Lesson Topics - Ms. Brittany has already enjoyed meeting with each classroom twice so far this year! Check in with your students about what they have learned.
Resources:
Llewellyn’s Community Care Program - Weekend backpack lunch program, holiday and school break food boxes, Portland Public Schools clothing closet application, and gifts during the winter break
And much more!
We look forward to working with you all! Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Best,
Brittany and Cassie

PTA Happenings
We want to start this newsletter by saying a huge thank you to all parents and community members that brought food items or donated monetarily to our first staff appreciation event last Friday. So many staff members expressed their thanks to our community for showing so much generosity and thoughtfulness.
The Sunshine Committee has some exciting things lined up for October so watch Konstella for the next sign up to show our staff just how much we value them.
While the sun is still trying to make up its mind during this summer to fall transition, it looks like better weather for the weekend forecast. Which means better weather for our garden update project……
Our annual Harvest Festival is coming up Saturday Oct 7 from 10 am to 2 pm! We need a pretty large crew to pull this off this year since we are totally revamping all of the garden beds (16!) and starting fresh. There is a sign up on Konstella so that you can join us. Any amount of time you have to volunteer will make a difference. We’ll take all the helping hands we can get!
Things happening that day include: arts/crafts activities table—exploration of mason bee nests with Naturehood PDX—doughnuts and apple cider—free pumpkins (while supplies last) to take home! Decorate them at the craft table and save them for the pumpkin contest at the end of the month!
Email Renee Wilkinson at ReneeCBWilkinson@gmail.com with questions about events or how you can support this event in other ways.

Welcome fall!! Time for all the comfort foods, warm drinks and cozy sweaters to become a regular staple in our routine. It was great seeing so many of our Llewellyn families at the open house and students going from classroom to classroom excited to show their families what they have been learning and creating. We hope you got a chance to stop by our Llewellyn PTA table to grab a calendar so you could see what exciting things we planned for the year.

PPS families who qualified for free and reduced-priced meals last school year (2022-23) have 30 days at the start of the school year to re-apply without incurring meal charges.
If complete meal applications for eligible households are not approved by October 10th, meal charges will begin on October 11th.
Families can apply online at www.schoolcafe.com/pps or request a paper application from the cafeteria or office.
Meal applications denied during the grace period will result in a loss of carryover benefits 10 calendar days thereafter.
Meal benefits begin the date the application is approved. The eligibility date cannot be backdated to cover meal charges incurred prior to the approval date.
Families do not need to submit a meal application if there are already approved for meal benefits, only have students that attend a CEP school, do not meet the income guidelines, or do not want meal benefits.
