Weekly Parent Update
May 30-June 7
Greetings Ory Parents!
It has been an honor to serve as your school principal. Thank you for entrusting your scholars to us, and we are looking forward to returning back to resuming many traditions and celebrations. The upcoming school year will entail more opportunities to invite you into the school to engage in family activities as well as information sessions to help you support your scholar(s).
Summer school will begin on June 13, 2022. Remember that reading is fundamental. Please be sure your scholar reads for at least 20 minutes each day and practice math facts. These 2 simple practices will help your scholar remain on their current academic level and make them stronger readers and mathematicians.
Only 2 guests are allowed to attend awards day. Please do not bring balloons inside as this will block those sitting behind you from seeing scholars receive their awards. Thank you for cooperation as well as all of your support this school year.
Ms. Jones

WATER BOTTLE POLICY
To maintain an orderly and safe environment, the following guidelines have been put in place to avoid the possibility of scholars bringing inappropriate substances to school in their water bottles, reduce the excessive use of the water bottle during instructional time, dissolve the abuse of water bottles and keep our hallways and scholars safe.
- Scholars may bring sealed clear water bottles to school.
- Water bottles must remain in book sacks or lunch kits.
- Scholars will have an opportunity to drink water during breakfast, during lunch, after PE, and after recess under the supervision of their teachers.
- During instructional time, teachers must grant permission for scholars to remove a water bottle from their book sack to drink water.
- Scholars may not drink from the water bottles unless granted permission from their teacher, and the water must go back into their book sack.
- Water bottles must remain in their book sacks or lunch kits while on the bus and during regular class time; therefore, water bottles shall not be on a scholar’s desk or on the floor.
- Sodas are not allowed on campus.
- Colored drinks are not allowed during class or outside during recess.
- Gatorade, lemonade, or other juice is allowed only during lunch.
- A school rule CAM point will be deducted if scholars willfully disregard these guidelines.
UPDATED CELL PHONE POLICY EFFECTIVE 4/25/22
RELAXED DRESS CODE
The relaxed dress code was put in place for scholars who do not have uniforms as a result of Hurricane Ida. If your scholar has a uniform and has been coming to school in a uniform, he/she is required to continue to wear their uniform. Our administrative team will reach out to parents of scholars and compile a list of those scholars without a uniform. A memo of dress wear expectations will be sent home for those who do not have uniforms. We are seeing a decline in adhering to the uniform policy under the relaxed code. Please support our efforts in teaching our scholars to Dress for Success!
MAKING LEARNING A PRIORITY
We are committed to making learning a priority, and we must work together to address the learning loss due to COVID and HURRICANE IDA! As parents, you can help in the following ways:
- Please be sure your scholar attends school each day.
- Avoid late check-ins and early check-outs.
- Schedule appointments after school when possible.
- Please be sure your scholar reads for at least 20 minutes Monday-Thursday.
- Contact your scholar's teacher with any concerns.
REQUEST FOR PARENT-TEACHER-ADMINISTRATOR CONFERENCE
If you would like to request a parent-teacher-administrator conference, please contact Ms. Allison Duhe to schedule an appointment at (985)-651-3700.
You can view your scholar's grades through the Parent Communication Center. Click on the link to access the site.
VIRTUAL SCHOLARS
Any questions about virtual learning should be directed to our school counselor, Mrs. Tai Cambre at tcambre@stjohn.k12.la.us.
CARPOOL PROCEDURES
- Parents without an Ory carpool tag will need to park and wait until all carpoolers are dismissed to check out their scholars with an ID.
- Carpool line begins at Sleepy Hollow Drive for morning drop off and afternoon pick up.
- Parents must have the Ory carpool tag on the dashboard.
AFTERNOON TRANSPORTATION CHANGE REQUEST
- If a parent requests a change in afternoon transportation, a written note must be sent to school and approved by Ms. Jones, the school principal.
- If an unforeseen circumstance arises, please contact the front office via phone. The school secretary, Ms. Allison will help make arrangements that must be approved by Ms. Jones, the school principal.
UNIFORMS
As we begin to transition to our normal routines, we are requesting that our scholars who have their uniforms begin to wear them on a daily basis.
Scholars who are not in uniforms shall meet expectations for respectful dress and adhere to the dress down guidelines set by the district which include the following:
- Top - no crop tops, tank tops, profanity, spaghetti straps
- All shirts must be tucked at all times.
- Bottoms- no holes- shorts and skirts must be no shorter than 2 inches above the knee- no sagging pants- shirts tucked
- Shoes - fully enclosed front and back
- See the full guidelines in the student handbook
To the fullest extent possible, if your scholar has a uniform, please allow him/her to wear it. If your scholar does not have a uniform, please be sure he/she is following the relaxed dress code. Dressing appropriately increases self-confidence and helps promote respect from others. Uniformity increases school-pride and shows pride in the organization(s) we are affiliated.
