Dear Families,
In 8th grade classes this week, students had the opportunity to learn about the programs available to them as freshmen at MHS next year! Next week, students will begin doing their course selections for next year. Before you know it, 8th grade promotion will be here! Keep up the great work, 8th graders. We are so proud of you!
Currently, 6th and 7th graders are also making their selections for their elective classes for next year. Make sure you have a conversation with your student(s) about the electives they would like to select! We have some new options for next year, including Student Council, and we are excited to be bringing in more computer science curriculum, including teaching students how to code! Be on the look out for more information about how we are working to improve the 21st century skills of our students through robotics and the computer sciences.
Quarter 3 final grades open for teachers on 2/24 and close on 3/5. The final day of the quarter, 3/5, is an early release day. Please make a note of this.
In person learning resumes on Monday! We are looking forward to seeing all of our in person students on Monday!
Thank you,
Carlos Alvarado

8th GRADE PARENTS
Shout Out to Ms. Hughes!
Get Involved with the DWMS PTO!
The PTO is a great way to stay involved with your child and get to know their teachers and other parents. All proceeds are used to support our school, our teachers, and students.
What do we do:
- The PTO works to directly benefit the students at Desert Wind Middle School.
- PTO fundraising earns money for school equipment & technology, faculty support, field trips, after school activities, and much more!
- Host events/fundraisers, to mention a few: Dances, Spring Gala, 6th/7th/8th Grade Parties, Winter Olympics, Teacher Prank Day, Staff Appreciation, Teacher Week, Box Tops, etc.
Who are we:
A Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) that encourages interaction between families and DWMS. Our goal is to serve as a source of support, and work with teachers, staff, and the community at large to improve our children's educational experience. The PTO works closely with the school administration to meet this goal.
- President: Mayely E.
- Vice President: Yvette G.
- Treasurer: Open - temporary, Yvette G.
- Secretary: Open - temporary, Mayely E.
Once we are allowed to host our typical robust programming, the PTO will be in great need of volunteers.
How you can get involved:
Please reach out to our PTO Committee, Mayely or Yvette at dwmspto20@gmail.com, for more information.
Thank You for your Interest in supporting our Tigers!

WAY TO GO, TIGERS!
Tiger
- Laylah is active in discussions and willing to help other students. She excels academically and always is responsible turning in her work.
- Adrian is an Awesome student! He completes his assignments on-time every time. The "A" work he produces is a reflection of him being responsible and managing his time to give quality work. Adrian is an amazing writer. He has articulated beautiful stories straight from his heart.
- Arianna B. has continued to show Tiger Trio Traits from the beginning of the school year. She is always on time to class, she participates, and she is respectful to both teacher and peers. Thank you, Arianna! From, Ms. Wright
Trio
- Dylan C. has improved so much in math this year! He is taking responsibility of his own learning and makes sure that he has the tools to be successful for each lesson. Good job, Dylan! From, Ms. Wright
- Alonso is a model student and just an all-around caring human being. He had to miss some school earlier this semester and he has worked extra hard to get caught up and make sure his grades are where he wants them to be. Alonso is on task, he participates in Meets, he is funny, smart, goofy, and kind. When he was gone, he was terribly missed by us teachers as well as his peers in class. Alonso is the definition of a respectful and responsible tiger!!!
